Renberg had a lot of bad luck and some poor judgement, injury-wise, but when he was 'on', he was something to see.

Even when Renberg was hurting, he always was busting his tail. Had he not had the injury issues, I have little doubt he'd be getting inducted along with the rest of the Legion of Doom. |

Renberg don't need no stinkin' Hall of Fame.
Hey, maybe he can induct the other two? |

Scary stuff, if it ends up pertaining to Mase:

TL;DR: statistically, goalies tend to be all over the place from season to season. - Tomahawk
Totally accurate. There are only a small handful you can count on to be consistent over a long period of time.
I thought the deal they have Mase was totally reasonable and doesn't handcuff them should he implode again. Of course, then we'd be back to square one in Flyers goalie hell
Lets pray the guy remains solid and Stolarz becomes a quality NHLer to follow. Cross your fingers, toes, etc. |

Yup, in 94-95, IMO, Renberg was, nearly as much as Lindros, the driving force on the Legion of Doom line and a better all around offensive player than Leclair. He clearly lost a step after the abdominal injury and never had that same powerful drive in his skating after that.

It could easily go the other way... he could whip out a career-apex .935 SV% and win the Vezina just as easily as he could regress back to his Blue Jackets form.
It's just really hard to say either way. |

I remember watching the Legion of Doom line and thinking that Renberg was doing so many great things with the puck and skill-wise looked like another Lindros without the mean streak. I think he was my favorite Doom member and I was always frustrated when he seemed to be out so much. |

Is it also possible that he will play similar to the past year? Or does it have to be a noticeable regression or progression? |

I suppose with goalies, anything is possible. Like I originally said, you can only count on a handful to be consistent annually. Most will have their peaks and valleys over time. |

No consistency. It's either 0.729 sv% or 0.983 sv% |

Well I guess you either have to be a Koolaid drinker or full of gloom and doom.
Steve Mason's save percentage by year starting in 2008-2009: .916, .901, .901, .894, .916, .917.
Discounting the 3 year slump in Columbus for reasons well known, I think expecting a save percentage around .916 next year is a pretty good guess. |

Yeah, the position is so dependent on the team's fortunes... even guys who sustain running strong seasons can completely lose it if the situation changes in front of them. See: Ilya Bryzgalov. |
