Can anyone explain to me the logic or idea behind what the Sharks are doing with Thornton and Marleau?

I can't find any rational idea why they would do this.

throwin' em to the sharks, baby.

I guess Wilson is trying to get them to waive their NTCs.

This will end up with Wilson getting fired.

I think he is a very good GM but I see no good outcome in their current situation.

It's odd. There are only 2 scenarios that I can come up with

1)Trying to stir the pot. Jump start the team.

2)They are preparing to part with these two in the near future. Like within the season. This is the beginning of cutting the strings.

And the first reason doesn't even make much sense. I think it's poor reasoning on their part if that's the case

The second reason isn't that much of a large leap.

Yeah I'm with you here. If they wanna "send a message" I can think of 9,482 other ways to do it

I'm going with #2, but I think it is going to blow up in management's face.

That franchise needs a clean sweep. Joe Thornton is and will always be a loser.

my first thought was he wants to make Couture or Pavelski captain and this was how he thought he could do it without insulting the two vets as much as he would have if he just stripped them and gave the letters to the two younger guys.

im probably wrong though

Thornton wouldn't waive his NTC. I've heard they did this to try and piss him off enough to waive. Not sure if the same can be said about Marleau. It really is baffling any way you look at it.

If we could drop Vinny on them I would take either in a heartbeat.

The timing of this being done does not suggest that they did it to try and piss him off to get him to waive. This is not normally the time of year when big trades are made. Teams are pretty much set at this point for the most part.

The rumor was they were trying to move him and/or Marleau all summer and Thornton wouldn't waive his NTC. If that is tryly the case and they truly want him gone then stripping him of his captaincy, while I dont agree with it, makes some sense to do late in the summer.

What was all this hype about this Little League team from Philly with this girl?
On the cover of Sports Illustrated, signing autographs...??

I tuned in for about 15 mins last night and what I saw reminded me of an old cartoon.

They tried to move them, both refused, so the team is now trying to make the situation so untolerable that they ask for a deal.

It is. The guy bled teal for years and they decided after the team feel short to make changes. It's not the best way to go about it, but the NMC's make it difficult.

I see both sides. Feel it sucks for both. Probably a bit more for Jumbo & Marleau
