It is. The guy bled teal for years and they decided after the team feel short to make changes. It's not the best way to go about it, but the NMC's make it difficult.
I see both sides. Feel it sucks for both. Probably a bit more for Jumbo & Marleau - Jsaquella
This got me thinking about weird trivia. I wonder which draft has the highest #1 and #2 scoring totals. It struck that those two have scored a lot of points.
Im guessing Mario and Muller. |

In the Entry draft era they are, but by the slimmest of margins. They beat out Turgeon and Shanahan by 1 point. The highest scoring 1-2 tandem are from the 71 draft. Lafleur and Dionne. They had a combined 3,124 points. |

Can anyone explain to me the logic or idea behind what the Sharks are doing with Thornton and Marleau?
I can't find any rational idea why they would do this. - Marc D
Speaking only from my point of view, I think the Sharks are long over due for a serious change up. Not in leadership but make up. If I'm Thornton and Marleau (special Marleau) I'd want out. As Captains, how do these players get their deserved respect in the dressing room if they don't even have the respect of their coaches and management. From the Sharks point of view, these quality but expensive players have been unable to get over the hump in the playoffs after years of being a dominant regular season team. The player I probably feel most for is Joe Pavelski. Pavelski is every bit the talent Eric Staal, Ryan Getzlaf or Zach Parise is being drafted out of 2003, yet he has to play behind these clowns. If the Sharks trade away Thornton and Marleau maybe a year or two earlier ( at least one) for young talent, maybe they keep up with the Hawks and Kings in the playoffs. Maybe I'm out of line but although Thornton is still one of the great passers in the league, the guy is only good for 10 or 15 goals a season now. He looks done to me by post season. The Sharks also have to consider how they bring along Logan Couture. The Sharks should be about Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture now. |

Pavelski isn't young. The fans love Thornton and Marleau and would revolt if they were let go.
Joe Thornton was just as good as Toews in the playoffs |

The Sharks had a great team last year and got unfortunate goaltending in the playoffs.
Their reaction to perceived "choking" by Thornton is priceless. |

Aside from his first playoff experience at age 18, and his last playoff birth with Boston (0 points in 13 games between the two)... he has been a hell of a playoff performer..
100 points in 119 games... |

They are looking at the whole body of his team success and ignoring that it's rarely been him who has come up short. They're trying to rebuild on the fly and they have gone from trying to move him to trying to make him demand out.
Bad situation for both sides. |

I think their GM is really solid.
Look at the great move trading away Doug Murray. They got better by subtraction.
Rarely does he over pay guys.
But this is really a fiasco.
I think he decided that Thornton and maybe Marleau must go, but the players don't want to cooperate. I bet EDM would take either one and SJ would get a nice return, but the NTC puts the players in the driver's seat. |

He'll be hired as an assistant GM somewhere soon. - Streit2ThePoint
He's not qualified. But teams should be paying for his zone entry information, and perhaps bringing him on board in an analytics department. |

At this point, I'm so dying for the season to start, I looked up when the preseason games start.
