HARBORCENTER is the third hockey venture for Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

Not to be picky, and I've skipped the first 99sh comments, so forgive me if someone brought this up, but I think you have to consider Pegula purchasing the Rochester team as the third hockey venture.

Is it really a hattie if it's a double post?

While that's encouraging, what I think was overlooked was what type of impact the players had on this team

Whitner, McKelvin, Evans, EJ, and a few others might not be "busts"
But was Whitner a top 5-10 safety ever here? Did McKelvin ever become a #1 corner?

I think our biggest problem was never drafting superstars, which in the NFL are found throughout the 1st round

I totally agree with you, I guess I was just looking at the black and white approach with my last post. Wehn I did the analysis a few weeks back, I actually mentioned how the 'hits' needed to be solid hits, not like whitners and Mcgahees, those guys really hurt us. McKelvin, yeah, I mean he's here and contributing on special teams, but he's been a career underachiever, so that hurts too. Really hitting on a guy is pretty damn difficult. Especially when variables like does he want to play here, off field issues, injuries and the like are introduces.

Adding the likes of McEichel will not mitigate the chance the GMTM will make mistakes, it will not mitigate the chance that some of our prospects may not realize their potential. What it would do is make the Sabres good enough so that when these maladies do occur, it will not affect the teams future potential as a cup contender. Buffalo would be good enough that a few misses will not matter as much, that we will not need perfect managerial decision making. It will mitigate the importance of mistakes that will be made. Which would be a very nice position to be in.

The Sabres are in a great position. 5 1st round picks in the last 3 years, and 3 more next year. In addition to those we appear to have found some steals in the second and third rounds with players like Lemieux, Compher, McCabe and Baptiste et al. Buffalo has added many good prospects via trade, Hudson Fasching being my favorite. And there are still many players that we will trade that will add to our surpluses of prospects and picks.

IMO the Sabres could be in the makings of a dynasty if they get that superstar in next years draft and hit on their other two first round picks.

Moulson ... Grigorenko ... Armia
Lemieux ... Girgenson ... Fasching
Deslaurier ... Larsson ... Bailey

And we still have Baptiste and Compher who could be top six scoring talents. We have another 2015 1st, we have good young players like Hodgson and Ennis that will be in their primes at that time. And the added prospects and picks from trading players like stafford, stewart and whoever else. We have a great young defense, and some good to great goalie prospects too.

Provided we get that cornerstone piece in this next draft, I think in four years we will have something really special. And with all the depth, it will be maintainable for quite some time.

posler could never get healthy or develop into anything
Peterson hasn't really played against that tough of competition yet so i don't know how to rate him

but Ullmark i have high hopes for.. he is a boy among men and holding his own

Especially considering what we should have coming to up in next years draft. It seems Murray's approach is to overload us with the best quality selections he can get and let them compete for spots, which aint a bad thing. I for see the Sabres going back to the style that when someone gets hurt, we can pull up the next best available player from Rochester, plug him in and keep playing our style without a blink.

Im not sure that's a glass half full approach though. Prospects in an organization are a numbers game. Some will pan out exactly as planned, some will exceed but some will fail. That's just how it is.

Though im hopeful for many of them I bet 3 or 4 years from now we'll be going "i can't believe we thought he was any good".

there's going to be surprises in both directions, which is why I think most experts rave about both the quantity AND quality of our prospects. I believe the quality will work out in TM's favor. Meaning, more of them will pan out than usual for a team. Between this years draft and next years draft, if 6 forwards and 3 D-man pan out, we're looking real good....and most experts seem to think so many will pan out, we're going to have some trade decisions to make....which will most likely fill the draft pool for the future, or address that veteran or key player we need right at that time.

I agree with you as well. I just wonder if that injury on Possler is going to really be a long term issue. So I tend not to get that excited about him.

We have so many prospects that even if half miss we still are good.

Turning Johnson, Schenn and Simmonds into Richards and Carter is pretty impressive.
Hopefully TM can do the same.

I think he may actually have more quantity to chose from than LA did too! So, fingers crossed. I don't chime in very often to debate weather a particular player will pan out or not because nobody knows. Hell, we could draft McDavid next year and then he gets hit by a bus or something! I don't see TM being the kind of GM to put all his eggs in one basket. He's building a team. if we get Mc David, he'll be a big contribution....if not, I'm still confident in what his plan is as a whole. Because, what other choice do I have?

I don't care how bad his playoffs were.... If we could relieve a team like the Rangers for Nash (after this season) I would try and deal for someone like that to play on Reinhart/McDavid/Whoever's wing

Agreed, I feel the same way about Eric Staal as well however i believe both have NTC's, don't know if either would waive to play here
