Thanks for the read Bill! Im hoping to stop at Rexy's the next time I make it down to the area just to be able to check it out. Afterall, it IS 1 of 100 things all Flyers' fans must do before they die
Unfortunately I do not think ill be making it Pelle's resting place anytime soon at least, however "Behind the White Mask" is on my birthday list from the gf |

Thanks for providing a Flyers oasis in the desert of July/August.
My Dad used to take me to Rexy's before Flyers games in the late 70s/early 80s. It was always a special occasion for me because we only attended 1-2 games a year. Later, I would go there on my own with friends and would often run into a member of the Broad St. Bullies, usually Hound, who was a regular. It is truly an iconic bar, steeped in Flyers lore.
I am/was also a frequent patron of Kaminskis as it is within walking distance of my house. In the 80s, there were always Flyers there after games. The night after the Flyers were eliminated by the Habs in the 1989 Wales Conf. Finals, about a half dozen Flyers, including Brian Propp and Tim Kerr were there. My table was right next to Propp's. Not being one to bother sports figures when they are in public, I kept out of his business. Out of nowhere, he turned to me, introduced himself, and bought my whole table a round. He was great to us and we all had a fun time chatting with one or our heroes. I can't imiagine that being something that would happen frequently, or at all, with atheletes of other pro sports. |

Is Bennigan's still around? I used to live in the DelCo area quite some time ago and I remember there being one in the Springfield area? My memory is shotty. This was back in 1998 or 99.
Kaminsky's sounds like a pretty nice place. Might have to make the trip over the bridge after a Flyer game to check it out. |

I don't mean to come off as disrespectful but I'm not a local guy (as some of us aren't) so I guess it would be easier for me to relate to topics like, debates related to the team. I think we've best Brayden Schenn at center or wing has been beaten to death. What about whether or not Voracek and Giroux should be split. Line combos change all the time but those two are the players who seem to remain the same. |

I'd certainly leave Voracek and Giroux together and see what else can develop among the lines. They need a left wing. I like Simmonds and BSchenn on the same line and they need a center and I like Read with Couturier. Lines seldom stay together for the long haul the way they once did, but those three pairings are worth keeping together based on past performance and we'll see who else fits where. |

I don't mind Simmonds and Schenn together. They've seen a lot of time together since coming over from LA. They know each other, they seem to really like each other. My only issue there is, it doesn't matter who they play with, they're poor defensively. Lecavalier seems to take the brunt of the blame for a line being bad defensively but Briere was just as bad. I like a line of Schenn, Simmonds and Lecavalier/Briere offensively but collectly they are a disaster defensively.
I think it makes sense to keep Giroux and Voracek together. They are easily our two most skilled forwards. Great hands, good skaters, they're both the total package outside of the fact neither are shooters. For the reason alone is why I'd consider something different. Simmonds is the new Knuble or Hartnell now. I wouldn't underrated what Simmonds could bring to playing with Giroux or Schenn for this matter. I wouldn't glue Giroux and Voracek just yet.
Keeping pairs together does make sense. Giroux-Voracek, Schenn-Simmonds, Couturier-Read are pairs to be proud of. I just wonder if the Flyers should continue to force one idea. Each pair has at least one flaw. |

My goodness, what was Bill thinking? Of course the blogs of August should be about the current squad so that the out-of-towners will feel included and can harp on things that have already been discussed ad infinitum.
I suppose the subjects of future blogs shouldn't include the Stanley Cup teams, since the majority of posters here never saw them? We wouldn't want you to feel that you couldn't 'relate'.

Rexys is a few minutes from my NJ office, might have to finally pop in there.
I remember Propp was at a gig I played at the Yacht Club just north of the Tacony bridge on the NJ side a few summers ago. It was right after the plane crash in Russia when that team was on it. Knowing he was probably affected by McCrimmon's passing I chose not to engage him in conversation. Would have liked to thank him for all the great moments. His first game was on the tube when I was playing a bar in Cape May in Oct 79 and that laser wrist shot of his was so strong, picking the top corners..... |
