Philly is going to push hard to trade coburn. I don't see him fitting in the future plans. I don't see him getting an extension either. Whether he puts up 50 points or not. We all know what coburn is at this point. He is a 3/4 at best with little offense. Schenn is still a growing and has flashes of brilliance and huge lapses. He needs time and I think Philly will let him continue to grow. - 28Girouxsalem28
I don't understand this perspective. Right now, Coburn is a very key piece in this defense. In my opinion, we could not trade him and still ice a competitive D at this point. He's going to be playing long and hard minutes for us for the foreseeable future, and only if young players start to prove that they can take that burden and handle it more effectively do I think there will be a possibility of Coburn wearing a different sweater. |

This season is all about b schenn and couturier. It's time for them to really cement there places in the league. Couturier has already done that on the d side but needs to bring goals and points. He also needs to be given a chance with pp and an easier es minutes to produce those points. - 28Girouxsalem28
I think Coots needs to continue to take the hard minutes. Softening his minutes to pad his offensive numbers won't make him a better player. Or at least, it won't continue to shape him into the player he's trying to be. As he continues to learn how to forge his offensive numbers under very hard minutes, he'll truly shape into an elite force like Bergeron. So ya, definitely start giving him PP time. Just don't shorten his PK time or give him easier ES mins. |

I'm not sure I agree with this, nor do I believe the Flyers care what kind of offensive numbers Coburn puts up. If they did, he'd be on the Power Play. |

That would be incredibly dumb.
Coburn's the closest thing they have to a number one defenseman. He's a solid number 2 guy and a damned good 3. Easily the Flyers' best all around defenseman at this point.
Schenn will never have the mobility that Coburn possesses and I don't think his ceiling will be what Coburn is right now, and likely will continue to be for the next 4 seasons or so, at least. Even if Schenn does find consistency, I think his ceiling is second pair physical guy, because he lacks the mobility and hockey sense. |

For sure. Jobs will also open up, for instance, I still don't see Grossmann being with the team for too much longer. I think the team's belief in two-way play isn't exclusive to forwards, and that they're looking to fill out their roster with more complete dmen. - JAKEw1234
I think Grossmann should be allowed to play out his contract and then who knows after that. I'd say i's unlikely he'll return but right now, I think he's fine. |

I'd have a really hard time parting ways with Claude Giroux, Steve Mason, Wayne Simmonds, Luke Schenn, Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Matt Read, Jake Voracek and Michael Del Zotto right now. These are a collection of young NHL players right now but of course my opinion will change from season to season. Also we can't move Scott Laughton, Samuel Morin, Travis Sanheim, Shayne Gostisbehere, Robert Hagg, Mark Alt or Anthony Stolarz until we get a serious look at what they can do. - SuperSchennBros
In the right deal I'd move anyone. If somebody is offering me a legitimate number one defenseman for some of the guys on that list, and he's not too old, I'd have a hard time saying no.
I have 3 guys I'd really need to be blown away to trade and they are Giroux, Voracek & Couturier. |

This seems about right to me. We'll see though, Schenn didn't look so great next to Meszaros or Gustafsson last season but I feel his play picked up when we traded for MacDonald. Luke Schenn also looked really good next time Timonen his first season as a Flyer, so it might be all about who he plays with. |

For me it's hard for me not to look at LA and the age of the players right now that led them to their 2 Stanley Cups. Kopitar, Williams, Brown, Carter, Gaborik, Quick and Doughty. I'd say the average age is a little older then our "go to guys" but we're close. I think I'd really like to enjoy the excitement of adding Bobby Ryan the same way they were able to add Carter at the deadline and Gaborik at the deadline. - SuperSchennBros
If it makes sense, sure. But the Flyers don't have a Doughty or Voynov. The Kings were legit contenders when they added Carter & Gaborik |

The offseason we made the deal for Simmonds and Schenn, the Kings looked very average to me. Then they added Carter at the deadline and then to me, as well to others, they looked like contenders. It didn't even matter what seed they were in. |

Schenn was doing OK with Gustafsson, but it wasn't an especially strong pair. He was better with MacDonald. Meszaros and Schenn was a bad pair for most games they were together.
If you have a legit number one defnseman, Braydon Coburn can be a very good partner for him, play a ton of minutes and be rock solid. I don't think that applies to Schenn, simply because he doesn't move well enough and still struggles to read plays at times. Coburn's hockey sense is lacking, too, but his mobility makes up for it.
It's not a knock on Schenn. Teams need good second pair guys who can be physical. He's really solid when he's on top of his game, too. I wouldn't be looking to move him, unless the return made sense.

I was surprised they finished 8th that season, after adding Richards I thought they'd be a much better regular season team. They ended up being dynamite in the playoffs, after getting Carter, but I expected them to contend that season as soon as they made the Richards deal. |

Always liked the Blues' jersey and logo.
I was glad when they shelved this one, though...

Ideally, I agree. Coburn and Streit or Del Zotto could be a damned good second pair. Unfortunately, the Flyers don't have that horse to be the all situations rock |

I also like the familiarity of the players on this team. Giroux, Simmonds, Mason and Schenn played in the World Juniors together. Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier played together in the world juniors as well. Voracek, Umberger and Mason played together in Columbus. The Schenn Brothers are obviously brothers. |

It's simple, distinctive and has a nice nod to the city, outside of a couple of the outdoor game jerseys, I think it's the best third jersey in the league |

Injuries. Gagne was out most of that season and I believe Richards struggled with a concussion himself. Oh, and Dustin Penner was Dustin Penner. It didn't matter if he played or not. |

I'd still like to see the lines shuffled a bit. I think that they can have a better overall top 9 by splitting the pairs up. I'd also like to see Couturier be utilized in more of a two way role.
I realize he's still going to get a big load on the defensive side of things, but he should get more OZ starts and more PP time. He managed two fewer points than Schenn in a much more difficult role and averaging a minute less per game on the PP. |

I guess they're lucky that they have a decent mix of PP and PK guys. Special teams isn't where we'll feel the pain of losing Timonen. |

Injuries were a factor, but even this year they were not a regular season juggernaut. Good team, still struggled at times to score. Then they get down 3-0 to the Sharks, flip the switch and steam roll the damned league |

At the very least, on paper, they can roll a mobile guy with a physical, slower guy. Last season they had to resort to pairing Grossmann and Streit, and then Schenn & Meszaros, which were either ineffective or needed extended time to adjust to each other and be effective.
