I'm actually happy they caught it now. He could have entered this season being one blocked shot off the foot away from dying.

Agreed. I've been hoping Kimmo would retire after this. Not that I don't want him to play but my Uncle dealt with Blood clots and even after taking all of the precautions it still unfortuntely killed him. I want Kimmo to have a long happy life with his family, way more than I want to see him skate again. We can always get another Defensemen. Kimmo's family can't replace him as easily. (not that it's going to be easy to replace a Kimmo).

here are some images of the reverse VH being executed with proper form and in the correct situation:

Yeah, InGoal had a nice diagram of when it's appropriate:

yep. i design their digital magazines; we ran a teaching article on this in the jan. 2013 issue. we're releasing the next full issue in the next week or so.

this website (which i don't work on) piece shows 3 good examples of goalies getting sniped outside the low angle area...the first two are almost identical to the position that kane shot the puck from on leighton...his just went on the ice. leighton's lead pad over rotated and was underneath him, he wasn't square, and had holes everywhere. again, the biggest issue is went down attempting this technique as the shot was being taken giving him little chance to make the save. the location of the shooter and the execution gave him zero chance.

A party in which what is celebrated is being invited to the real party. That needs to catch on.

Just brutal. I hope he can live a healthy life, with this kind of affliction hockey shouldn't even be in his thoughts.

Flyers can't even make it through a summer without some kind of injury.

Per Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post, no invites were issued to Penner or Malone. Also, if the locker room plates are accurate, Del Zotto will be number 15, Umberger 18 & Schultz will wear 55

dZ said in that radio interview a couple weeks back that he was taking 15. I like umby in 18. It's a good #. Pretty sure Schultz has worn 55 throughout. Markov! :-(

I'm not a big numbers guy, I guess those are better than some goofy ass random number in the 70's

Let's hope Schultz doesn't resemble the last Flyer to wear # 55.

I switched to 72 for the Maccabi games and have stuck with it. Not random at all. I've retired 31 for myself. It was time to move on.

As for any nhlers in that range, I'm sure they're all random. Fruitbats.

It was in honor of the 11 Israeli athletes murdered in Munich at the 72 games, and it's also my birth year.

I get that style as being the flavor of the week in the goaltending world.

It always seemed to me, however, that goalies like Quick and Bobo who tend to crouch more than others in close, though using it successfully, still leave a gaping hole over their shoulder. I oft times found myself yelling at the TV for the attackers to go top corner.

Now I realize the closer you are to the goal, that top corner diminishes and it's difficult to pick spots in the heavy traffic areas, but is it me or do some goaltenders, Quick included, seem to drop in that position, too low, too soon?

Jim Mckay in that yellow blazer. "Our greatest hopes and our worst fears are seldom realized." Our worst fears have been realized tonight. They have now said there were 11 hostages; two were killed in their rooms yesterday morning, nine were killed at the airport tonight. They're all gone."

Just terrible.

Leino parlayed a stellar playoff into a huge contract. Cab fare for Pegula.
