I get that style as being the flavor of the week in the goaltending world.
It always seemed to me, however, that goalies like Quick and Bobo who tend to crouch more than others in close, though using it successfully, still leave a gaping hole over their shoulder. I oft times found myself yelling at the TV for the attackers to go top corner.
Now I realize the closer you are to the goal, that top corner diminishes and it's difficult to pick spots in the heavy traffic areas, but is it me or do some goaltenders, Quick included, seem to drop in that position, too low, too soon?
- 77rams
Sure, many drop too soon, sometimes in this situation. I don't think quick is guilty of this wrt to the rvh. He's really, really good with this technique. Quick is guilty of over challenging in oddman rush situations and despite his agility and quickness will get beat, usually up high, because he can't cover the open portion fast enough.

Jim Mckay in that yellow blazer. "Our greatest hopes and our worst fears are seldom realized." Our worst fears have been realized tonight. They have now said there were 11 hostages; two were killed in their rooms yesterday morning, nine were killed at the airport tonight. They're all gone."
Just terrible. - PLindbergh31
Very sad, and so senseless. |

It seems like majority of things that go on in the world are senseless.
No worries, our fearless leader has been faced with the critical decision of 5 iron, or fairway wood. |

Per Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post, no invites were issued to Penner or Malone. Also, if the locker room plates are accurate, Del Zotto will be number 15, Umberger 18 & Schultz will wear 55 - Jsaquella
More accurately, the GM won't comment on it at all and the coaches say they don't "expect" it. I personally don't think they are coming -- Penner in particular will probably have other invites -- but I also remember when the Flyers said they hadn't invited Bill Guerin (despite the fact he was working out in Voorhees), Bryan Berard and Mark Bell -- none of whom made the team -- right up until they were actually there at the opening of camp in various seasons.
They aren't going to tip their hands any which way. |

Leino parlayed a stellar playoff into a huge contract. Cab fare for Pegula. - PLindbergh31
A stellar playoff in 2010 and a pretty good season the next year (including a strong playoff series against Buffalo). |

I just saw the quote where Hextall said "I haven't heard that" when asked specifically about Penner.
I wouldn't bring in either, myself. They have young guys fighting for spots, and I'd rather give them the opportunity than two vets, neither of whom seem to have a ton left in the tank(especially Malone). |

Think the paddle down makes it that much worse... short side high is wide open as well.
I'd imagine that there's gonna be a pretty nice living to be made for guys who can roof it within 10' of the net in the coming years, and wicked LeClairian toe curves will be on the upswing.

I know we are thin at LW but is there anyway they could find someone other than 2 dudes in their mid 30's one of which is a drunk cokehead and the other a fat mess?

I sometimes wonder if NHL clubs really glean any kind of tangible advantage from their obsessive preoccupation with controlling information. Injuries, salaries, roster info, metrics, camp invites... you can't even watch the other team's morning skate w/o getting pooh pooh'd. Seems like overkill. |

No, they're mostly control freaks.

Palushaj, Ryan Jones, Leino & Drayson Bowman are the only sub-30 wingers left out there that would even be worth a look. |

Speaking of terrible things, GiG just lost his wallet last night. Soc included. I put it in my wallet for 3 days because it needed to be copied for an insurance waiver for school. I've had the wallet for 6 years.
3 days in 6 years it's been in there. I was going to take it out today after I had confirmation that the insurance was waived.
So now I'm calling everyone about cancelling everything (I didn't own any credit cards luckily) and taking out one of those 90 day fraud protection things.
I lost count of the amount of alcohol I've had today. |

I would take Penner tbh. Add him, and assume Laughton makes the club and you can defintely run four lines that can score

Read Coots Simmonds

If Schultz wants #55 he has to go thru this guy.
(Really though, lets hope neither see Flyers action outside the preseason this year.) |

He'll be back with Rimouski so it won't be an issue for this upcoming season. |
