I think every team gets to pick like 8 or 9 players that are "untouchable" and then the expansion teams do a draft where they have to pick players that weren't on the list but they can only pick like 1 or 2 from the same team. |

The famed "Roxy flu" that affects visiting teams in Vancouver will be nothing compared to the "Spearmint Rhino, Crazy Horse, Club Paradise, Mustang Ranch, Can Can Room, Sapphire Flu" in Vegas.
Teams can pay their 4th liner's salaries with the missed curfew fines they collect on those road trips. |

It's either gonna be a major success or a major failure. |

Seattle has all the ingredients that appear to make it a success yet it has never, ever been considered a prime market until now. Why?
The city is all football in the fall, with a little baseball thrown in. If an NBA team comes back, and certainly that would be the preferred tenant, then where does that push the NHL? You are competing with U of W too and a very outdoor friendly environment. YEs there are some junior teams there- whoo! But are they an indication of what people will pay for hockey?
This only works if the team has an insanely friendly lease and taxpayers foot the bill for the stadium. Does the NHL want another team that bleeds losses and sucks revenue away from the teams that make money? I want to see a ticket price model before I believe this because if they can't even meet what Winnipeg generates in ticket revenue then this is another failed venture waiting to happen.
Perhaps cleaning up the mess that is Florida and the soon to be mess again Arizona before we add another on top? |

From the 2000 expansion draft.
26 of the 28 teams existing in the league at the time of the draft were each allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards. The Atlanta Thrashers and Nashville Predators had their entire rosters protected, as they were the two newest franchises in the league, only being in existence for one and two years respectively. |

Could Toronto and Quebec bring the count to 34? - jtommyt
If that's the case, we need a new playoff format.
Each Division
4th seed vs 5th seed in a wild card (best of 5 series), winner plays 1st seed.
2nd seed vs 3rd seed.
Basically adds 4 more teams to the playoffs.
Scrap the conferences. |

So the NHL can somehow manage more teams than even the NFL now? How about moving teams instead of expanding and watering down the league's talent and potentially hurting the bottom line by keeping around teams that are losing money every year? |

I could not agree more. The on-ice product is so good right now, why bring in 100 new fringe players to make it worse? |

I hope expansion happens for the upcoming season so all the Buffalo fans who kept talking trash lose out both on McDavid and Eichel with THEIR PICK and then get around the 20th with ours.
