So...who's more favorable to make the Flyers, Vincent Lecavalier or Jason Akeson in a top nine role? Umm...Vincent Lecavalier! A proven NHL player who I'm assuming has no moment clauses in his contract and a proven point producer who has yet to show he cannot do it anymore. Comparing the two cases seens rather odd to me. The door is wide open for Akeson to reach out and grab a roster spot after only having nine NHL games under his belt but it's also there for Bellemare who has zero. Lecavalier has a spot already.

I also want to point out that Vinvent Lecavalier and Brayden Schenn were the only two players to come off pretty productive starts to last season while everyone else sucked. I wouldn't expect Lecavalier to start the season in a fourth line role. I would only expect him to land there if he sucks as the season progresses.

I missed that post, I agree. How sad! Definitely sending prayers for that young man. Nobody deserves that. Puts things into perspective for sure.

Even if Lecavalier gets off to a strong start, he has to show that he can hold up for the entire season, and not weaken. If his back is sound, I see no reason why he can't regain his form and be a productive player.

The comparisons of Lecavalier's situation in making the team and Akeson making the team to me doesn't exsist. Lecavalier is a Flyer, for Akeson it really depends. Right now, for all I care, Akeson could be a throw-in in a Bobby Ryan trade.

I want what's best for the team, and I want the best team on the ice. If that includes Akeson and Lecavalier, or if it doesn't, so be it.

That's fine. There's plenty of free agents and some camp tryout bodies that are "proven" NHL players. I don't see what that has to do with anything. If Vinny can even be a servicable secondary scoring piece I'll be ecstatic

Whichever one plays the best in 2014-15 & beyond. If Akeson is a better fit, and it's at the expense of Lecavalier then great.

Akeson was a far more effective player than Lecavalier in the playoffs, and if that trend continues, then enjoy the 4th line Vinny. EDIT: I'd take both over Rinaldo.

Akeson was better then a lot of players in the playoffs. That won't last. Jason Akeson is comparable to a lot of young players who came into the league, had a strong start and then fell off. If he could come in and become a long term contributor to the team, great! However I'm far from ready to deem him a player of any significance yet. Most certainly not after a small sample size.

It's very possible Akeson can't sustain his level of play. It's also very possible that, despite his 400 goals, Stanley Cup ring and long history of production, that Vincent Lecavalier is no longer capable of being an effective top 9 NHL forward.

I don't know if Akeson can sustain what he did for 8 games. I don't know if Lecavalier can rebound. For every flash in the pan kid, there's a vet that declined and was no longer effective.

I know you don't like to hear it but Lecavalier scored 20 last season. Enough said. His spot on the roster is his to lose. Akeson has to earn a spot...period.

Which means nothing now. Lecavalier isn't being demoted to the AHL, placing him on the fourth line or scratching him would be stupid if the team is trying to up his value.

What would demoting him to the AHL do his salary is above the $900,000 limit to not count against the cap.

Yeah, and Berube will give 'em both a shot. Remember rookie Dman Andy Delmore's playoff hat trick? He got a shot the next season, then gone
