I think the only embarrasing thing happening here is you arguing the meaning of the word completely. Akeson is not in any way a proven player at the NHL level. Therefore he is completely unproven as an NHL player. - MJL
says it's embarrassing to argue the meaning of the word, goes on in his next sentence to continue the argument over meaning of the word |

That is incorrect. I'm arguing whether Akeson is a completely unproven player at the NHL level. Not the meaning of the word. And in my opinion, he is completely unproven as a player at the NHL level. So the question is, what variable makes a player proven, in any amount. In my view, a short span of games played well, doesn't prove anything. Too small of a sample size. That's really where the debate should lie, and not on the meaning of the word completely. |

I agree with those who say it is inaccurate to state that he's "completely" unproven. He's done all he could at the AHL level and has had a stretch of (NHL) games, most of them key games, in which to show what he can do. In order to prove oneself at the NHL level one needs to get a chance to perform at the NHL level. He has done that, albeit not in a large enough sample size to make a conclusion; however, during the NHL games he has played thus far, he did show he can keep up with the play of the league and produce points, at the NHL level. Is he a "completely" proven NHL player? No. Far from it. Is he "completely" unproven as an NHL player? No, that wouldn't be accurate either.
A question. If Akeson comes into camp and does well and earns a spot on the roster that slots him ahead of Lecavalier in the lineup, would he deserve it? |

Pretty much this.
He must have at least proven a little something to Chief and Hexy, too, for them to leave the door wide open for him to nab a top-9 spot like this. |

I think he's proven he can play at a NHL level, at least as a fill in. He's not a proven NHL regular, but his play over the 8 NHL games he's had is very encouraging.
I'd say that I'd need Lecavalier to show up, in great shape and be willing to adapt and prove he could earn a spot, just like Akeson or Bellemare. He should not be handed anything because of his stature or contract |

A friend of mine I grew up with in Elementary school was just diagnosed with tumors on his lungs. Its his fifth bout with cancer. He's 22. His had it on his brain, spinal chord, and his back twice.
I played baseball with this kid.
I know it doesn't work, but it'd be nice to get some good karma for Nolan. If you pray, pray. If you wish, wish.
He doesn't know if he's going to bother with a 5th chemo regimen. He's at home in pain right now. |

At least you are debating the real point which is, is Akeson proven at any level. In my view he is not. I think he showed he has potential, and has earned a real look in camp, and a legitimate chance to make the team. But AHL games don't prove anything as far as being an NHL player. And in my opinion, he hasn't proven in anyway that he's an NHL player. Which makes him completely unproven as an NHL player. If you think he has proven he is, that's fine, But I disagree with that.
A question. If Akeson comes into camp and does well and earns a spot on the roster that slots him ahead of Lecavalier in the lineup, would he deserve it? - exlund
Absolutely. They need to do what's best for the team. The best players should play. That should be determined in camp and the pre season. But on opening day, Akeson would still be unproven. |

Best wishes to him. My cousin was diagnosed with brain tumors at age 27. He had chemo and major surgery. Thankfully, it's in remission for now. It could be back any day though. I think the uncertainty is what makes him most upset. |

Yeah, Raffl/VL/Art Ross/Pedobear/Umberger... all those guys have something to prove. Recent play would suggest Akeson and Raffl are trending up, and Vinny and Umberger down, but who knows how it will shake out. |

We have a big fundraiser every year at Chickies and Petes in the Northeast. It's in October. Anyone can go. Just pay $50 ($40 for students) and it's all you can eat and all you can drink beer. They serve wings, pizza, mussels, crab fries, chicken tenders and cheesesteaks.
They have raffles with signed memorabilia. I won a Claude Giroux signed poster and Chase Utley signed poster.
The event raises over $20,000 each year. |
