Absolutely. They need to do what's best for the team. The best players should play. That should be determined in camp and the pre season. But on opening day, Akeson would still be unproven. - MJL
Well, you seem to have an issue with people thinking of Akeson more favorably than Lecavalier at this point, presumably based on his (their) play thus far. Yet, if he does well in camp and preseason and is seen more favorably, making the roster in a slot (line) ahead of Lecavalier, you seem ok with that?
To me, Akeson being one of the Flyers best players during the 7 game playoff against the Rags tells me a lot more than might be gleaned from a camp and a pre-season. That said, I like Vinny and think he's underrated at this point. I don't look at the two players as an either/or...they are two separate cases who will sink or float on their own merits. |

What this board needs right now is for you to say something poorly worded, ill-thought out and highly inflammatory, preferably with several misspellings. |

I think there's two or three posters who have taken care of that for you. I'll try to help though.
If two girls kiss is it gay or just hot?
What about two guys?

You're wrong in my opinion. That would depend on Akeson being proven as an NHL player in any amount. In my view he is not proven by any means. So if in my opinion, Akeson did not in any way prove that he was an NHL player in the 9 games or whatever he played last season, then my use of the word was correct, based on my opinion. You may disagree and feel that he did show that he was an NHL player, and that's debatable. |

Yes, I'm okay with any player earning a spot on the team in camp with his play. Just as I'm okay with any player losing his spot on the team with his play in camp and pre season. That's what it is for.
What I disagree with is penciling in Akeson, who is unproven, and omitting and giving up on Lecavalier who is a proven player. And also with those who want to completely discount the significant injury that Lecavalier suffered that clearly affected his play. I'm alos willing to consider the possibility that Lecavalier may not recover and find his legs, and may not be the player he has been as recently as the beginning of last season. But I'm not going to rule him out at this point. Time will tell.
My view on Akeson is that he played well and showed he has potential. And I think he should be given a long and legitimate look in camp. I actually hope that he makes the team, because that bodes well for the Flyers. I think the potential is there that he could be a diamond in the rough, and a late bloomer. One of those players that skips through the scouts. Sometimes a player has some weaknesses to his game that sour the scouts on him. Such as size and skating ability. But when it comes right down to it, regardless of those limitatons, some players can just play, and that's all there is too it. And some players are better NHL players then they are AHL players. Akeson could be one of those players. The only way to find out is to give him a chance.
But all he has earned and shown to this point is that he derserves a legitimate shot. No more, no less.
Agree totally with the either/or sentimate. |

I disagree, he has much much to prove with consistency but he made a good first impression. He was one of the better players on the team in that series, period. Not just looked like he belonged, was one of the BEST players on the team at times- literally. |

All of this word definition talk reminded me of a Redd Foxx joke. Please indulge me.
Teacher: Class, please use the word "definitely" in a sentence.
Little Johnny: Sky is definitely blue.
Teacher: No, sky isn't definitely blue. The sky is grey on rainy days and black at night.
Little Mary: Grass is definitely green.
Teacher: No, grass isn't definitely green. Grass turns brown when it doesn't get water. Anyone else?
Little Tommy: Does a fart have lumps?
Teacher: Er... ah... no.
Little Tommy: Well, then I DEFINITELY pooped my pants!!
