finally someone else shows some god damn respect around here
- -davies-

Yup. I may be a loyal Ranger fan but rarely miss a Flyer game. Loved Coatsey's Corner and just will never understand how Philly turns on their own so easily, in all sports. New York can be harsh too but.......oh well, I just don't get how you can throw a true Flyer supporter like Coates into the trash bin so easily. At least act sad or nostalgic.

It does have some unfortunate cap implications... they'll probably have to put Kimmo on LTIR before day 1 now, too.

- Tomahawk

Don't know that. There is no timetable. White could be ready to go, come the start of the season. And we also don't know that it changes anything as far as the cap goes.

They can waive Rosehill or Akeson and put Pronger on LTIR and be OK, according to capgeek they're only $5000 above Pronger's cap hit. There's nobody on the roster now that is waiver exempt.

Coates will still be doing the games, he'll just be on radio. It's not like they Remenda'd him

It was bad enough to require surgery, so I'm guessing he's out at least 4-weeks minimum... 4+ months worst case if it was a complete tear.

Good chance that Akeson would be claimed. And they're going to want to be closer to Pronger's full cap hit over the upper limit then that scenario would put them at.

Surgery can be minor, and a player can come back quicker then 4 weeks. Or it could be longer. We don't know. No reason to jump to any conclusions. Either way, not much of an effect on the Cap.

According to the 5 websites I checked, the general consensus on pectoralis muscle surgery rehab is 6-9 months. The National Institute of Health's site went very deeply into the surgery and after care and suggests keeping the area immobilized for at least 3 weeks following surgery.

Depending on the severity-and I'm assuming that since there was surgery required it's fairly severe-White could be out an extended period. The good news is, he could be put on LTIR at the same time Pronger is, rather than immediately utilizing Timonen's situation.

He's added at least 20 lbs over the past twelve months. He's going to be a gigantic man when he is fully mature

So when did White tear his pectoralis?
I am assuming it happened after they signed him, but you never know.

Being a non medical person, I'm pretty sure as with any muscle injury, there are varying degrees and different types of injuries. His injury could be severe, or it could be more minor. Just because he had surgery, doesn't mean it's a long term injury. Diagnosing an injury to a player and giving a timeline for recovery based on googling websites, isn't the ideal way to determine the extent of a players injury. Getting the reports from the team, of the actual prognosis of the player would be more accurate. I'm going to wait for that, before jumping to any conclusions.

According to Hextall, it happened last week. And they said it was surgery to repair the muscle.

There was no exact date given, but it occurred last week, per the press release from the Flyers

From my experience, this is a long term injury. It is what it is. If it was bad enough to need surgery, he will be out for a while.

Thanks all, for the replies to my query.

Pectoralis tear, nasty.

I mean it's hard to sew muscle to muscle or muscle to bone.

Weightlifting sounds like it could be the cause, but who knows.

It's all Berube's fault, demanding his guys be in shape

But seriously though, sucks for a guy just joining a new team with a decent shot of making the roster, given Hextall's statements about not rushing the young players.
