Nice post.
I'll take the quiet, resolute, competitive grit that guys like Toews and Bergeron bring over the kind that lands the team in hot water time and time again. - Tomahawk
Absolutely!
Bobby Clarke, Dave Poulin, Gary Dornhoefer, Rick Tocchet, Rod Brind'amour...thats the kind of grit that wins cups |

I dont care about winning %. I'd much rather them have one Cup in the last decade and have lows like Carolina that. Constantly be pretty good but never win. - jmatchett383
Then we would probably would have to start throwing seasons away like most teams have had to, to win. |

Same role, wide game in skill levels between the players. - SuperSchennBros
So you're basically saying that Knuble is a player with no skill who only succeeded as a top line player in Boston Philly and Washington by pure luck? |

Let me ask you this: if you could trade the horrible Phillies roster for the current Nationals roster, but would have to give up the 2008 World Series, would you? Because that's basically what we're comparing. |

Anyone who thinks that someone can score 30 goals in an NHL season by just standing in front of the net and having pucks bounce in off of them is simply clueless - BiggE
You're clueless. What class level of skill are we talking about? Bringing up John LeClair and Tomas Holmstrom isn't bring to the same level of skill. Holmstrom played with world class players, where as John LeClair was a world class player. |

Mike Knuble played in the 2006 Olympics for the USA. That's pretty good, in my book. |

I'm saying Knuble wouldn't exactly anchor a team's offense. Most of his goals would come from the Power play, playing with skilled guys like Joe Thornton, Peter Forsberg and Alexander Ovechkin. |

Wings successfully made the transition between the days of Kocur/Probert/Gallant to Yzerman/Larionov/Shanahan to Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom with no amount of tanking.
Being ahead of the curve tends to pay off better than remaining shackled to the past. |

Where did I mention Leclair or Holmstrom??? All I said was that it takes skill to score 30 goals in the NHL. Thats it. Try and get your facts straight before responding.
Oh, and BTW, don't feel the need respond to this post because I'm done wasting my breath on you. |

Yzerman and Lidstrom playerd a lot of years together. And really some luck helps. Such as drafting Lidstrom in the 2nd round and having him turn into one of the best defenseman of all time. And drafting Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the 6th round. I wouldn't exactly call that ahead of the curve. And now that Lidstrom is gone, they're having issues replacing him, and the team is not seeing the same level of success. Getting lucky to drft a generational player that plays for 20 years goes a long way. |

I did. Leclair was a better player, but all 3 of them were the same type of player and all 3 were big scorers during the majority of their careers. |

Goal and an assist. Good stuff. Remember when Shane Corson made Team Canada?
Now maybe my uses of the word "Skilled guy" is different from others but Knuble would never be a shootout magician, speedster, or all around Jack-of-trades in all three zones. I viewed him as a really good gritty role player. Power Forwards are comparable to better versions of grinders. At least to me. You want these guys to go into the ugly areas that you don't want your skilled guys to go to. |

Just think if we got extra grit by trading Read for Kassian and MDZ for Engelland. We would surely double the numbers of cups won in the last 39 years by the end of this decade. Maybe triple. - Feanor
MDZ is horrendous. A healthy scratch on a team that missed the playoffs. Engelland at least got ice time on the Pens.
MDZ for Engelland would be a great trade. Read for kassian is moronic. |

The Wings had their troubles before winning their first Cup no question. The Wings are currently in their 23 year of making the playoffs. Was it 1997 when they won that first Cup in who knows how long? |
