Engelland is terrible, who does have an absurd contract and was significant overrated by Burke. It was a flat out embarrassing contract to give to him.

MDZ is a reclamation project. I'm not sure why other teams didn't come calling, but I'm glad they didn't. MDZ got a short leash with a crazy Torts, and then was misplaced by Nashville. Things like these happen. Sometimes, it's the players fault, and other times it is not.

I'm hoping that it was the latter for the Flyers.

Good points. Really the difference is that pretty much every player on LA plays the game the right way. The can put any of their 4 lines out in any situation. They all play within the system, play well on both sides of the puck, and play well defensively. Even Gaborik bought into it when he came over. The leadership on LA demands that. And they lead by example with players like Kopitar, Williams, Carter, Brown, and Richards. You either play that way, or you don't play. It was all started under Terry Murray.

Yeah, both Nolan and Clifford were point per game players in junior. There's enough skill there to play a regular shift. Nolan's pretty adept defensively too, as you'd expect from Ted Nolan's kid.

Richardson had a 97pt season in junior, and was a scorer at the minor pro level. There's even more skill there, even though he's more of a low-level agitator now.

Rosehill and Rinaldo have never been anything more than plugs, at any level.

And let's not forget the Kings just won with a 4th-line consisting of all top-35 draft picks: Clifford/Richards/Lewis

Clifford played four seasons and hasn't broke 14 pts. I doubt the upside is still there... I don't want a guy to "play responsible" and just waste time until Giroux gets back on the ice. I want somebody who will keep the stress up (maybe a different type of stress than Giroux puts on, but you can't have 4 lines of Giroux).

One thing that I'm not sure of - regarding Rinaldo. What is the coaching staff telling him? Are they telling him to go and play on the edge and stir things up, or are they telling him to play responsible. You've got to believe that if Rinaldo wasn't listening to the coaching staff that he would have been traded/demoted. So, I believe he is following orders to play on the edge. Rinaldo at 24 is still learning the position, and trying to figure out where that edge is... I think he played well for the most part last year. I've seen situations were he got penalties from his reputation. I say kept'em and let him hone his "skills".

Rinaldo doesn't have to have been a scorer in Juniors to become a solid 4th line player for the Flyers. He simply has to become more disciplined, play smarter, and develop a better defensive game.
He stagnated last year, but he can turn it around. If not, then the Flyers should move on.

Nobody is saying Engelland is a gem. He serves a purpose and more than a few teams would like him as a 6/7 Dman. Looks like the Flyers are the ONLY team that want MDZ.
