Actually he probably won't be. Hes likely to stick to the end of camp/preseason and could get a lot just by being with the big club for some of the first 9 games. I think he'll miss some Rimouski games early.

So pointing out that other teams make cap mistakes somehow excuses the Flyers? Not sure I get the logic. The issue with the Flyers is getting burned by the same mistake twice. Losing decent depth guys on waivers or recall waivers. Over 35 contracts that require guys to sit on LTIR for a year or four. Signing veteran UFAs to long term big money deals that make them look overpaid for the last couple seasons of the deal.

Was any of these things fatal? No. The Flyers have been a good, contending team during most of Holmgrens term as GM. But it makes me wonder if a slightly less aggressive or more nuanced approach would have yielded better results, as good as the results generally were.

This isn't shredding the Flyers or Holmgren as idiots, it's simply a bit of criticism over some avoidable mistakes that might have set them back needlessly

That's a ridiculously early start and is a bad idea for all off the junior leagues. Teams will be missing their top players for up to a month when they attend NHL training camps mid-season.

I don't like giving up assets for the rights to speak to a player. Bryzgalov, Streit, Hamhuis and Nabokov.

Each player I've named has had different results and reaction.

We got Bryzgalov but we over paid in many different ways. We had to give up Carter and Richards to make space for the new Bryzgalov and bring in lesser deals and less expereinced players. We gave up a prospect in Matt Clarkson, whom from my understanding players a Rinaldo like role. We signed Bryzgalov to too much money and too many years, which as a result didn't workout.

I suppose Nabokov even as an older goalie wanted even more money then Bryzgalov did (My assumption) and would budge on his demands.

Hamhuis already knew where he wanted to play.

Streit has worked out...so far.

Gave up Clackson, who the Coyotes didn't re-sign, and a third rounder for Bryzgalov. Clackson was only to free up a contract slot. He's a career minor leaguer...so yeah, kind of like Rinaldo

Hartnell and Timonen played well here for a long time. Still hate giving up a 1st rounder to talk to them early

Good call on how Hartnell and Timonen were brought in. If memory serves, was it the first time the team had traded for the rights to a player? We gave Nashville their own first rounder back from the Forsberg deal?

I could live with that one though, at least we got 2 quality players who helped turn the franchise around for that 1st

Considering that both Timonen and Hartnell were magically signed to six-year contracts the same day the trade for their rights was announced, it was clear the trade and contract details had been worked out well in advance. They were basically part of the Forsberg trade but the Preds needed them for the stretch and playoffs first.

Very possible, although the Flyers have signed guys prior to the July 1st opening of free agency, like Roenick.

I'm just not a fan of trading assets for a pending free agent.

It's a lot easier to be OK with that one than say Hamhuis. Still, don't like it.

Vince will score 29 goals this year.

But honestly, if he's given the right opportunities, he could get close.
"(Vinny) just needs to change his game a little bit. We talked about that after the season and he’s willing to do that. And I’m willing to bend a little bit here, too, so I have to do a little bit better job managing him and he’s got to buy into the team.”
- Berube

I feel cautiously optimistic about Vinny this season
