So is there any solid word on if or who might be a training camp invitee? |

Nope, not that I've heard. I don't think they are inviting anyone, just gonna go with what they already have. |

What's with the obsession with Bobby Ryan? He has slick finish but I don't see the compete level and playoff type warrior traits that I see in any of the top 2 lines from the L.A. Kings. Is it because people think he'd pair amazingly with Giroux?
I hope it's not because of the Cherry Hill thing. Cherry Hill is that pesky little village you sometimes get stuck in traffic when heading to the Ben Franklin. |

I don't really see the need to invite a forward with the amount of guys capable of playing those positions already.
I might take a look a D man that could come cheap and look to move Grossmann out for a pick and cap relief. McBain, Morris, Corvo are guys that could come in for a year and bridge the gap til one of our AHL guys is ready. |

It's largely the Cherry Hill thing for most people here, whether they admit to it or not. The team does need a high skill LW, preferably with strong board play. There is no arguing that. Ryan is in line to be the top UFA next offseason so yeah, there are a lot of teams drooling over him right now.
I would take him as a UFA. I'm not trading assets for him. And Vinny has to be moved(with no cap retention). That's the only way I would take him. |

Thanks Bill. Great stuff to keep us occupied while we wait for the season to start. Much appreciated.
Any suggestions on who will be playing left wing on G's line this season? I can't wait to next summer to see who hurts their hand; it seems like G has started a trend lol. I would have suggested Hartz, but he's gone. |

Another point I forgot to consider is the fact that he grew up with ties to Bobby Clarke and was a Flyers fan. |

There is that too. Clarke is really nothing more than a figurehead at this point though. Ryan has no ties to Hextall, Snider, Berube or any of the coaching staff. Those are the people with the input here.
I do think he would pair nicely with Giroux and Jake but it's the money that concerns me. If he goes to UFA there will be teams that offer him 7mil a year. Maybe if he really wants to play here he'd sign for a bit less but I have zero reason to believe that would happen. We hear it every time from Leafs fans when a Toronto native hits free agency and it never happens. The Wild seem to be the only team with that luck but even then Parise and Suter certainly didn't take much of a discount to go home.
I just cant see how you add a 7 million dollar a year player to this roster without creating big holes elsewhere. |

Yeah, I can only see it happening if they are able to move both VLC and Umberger. |

I agree. Parise and Suter took less then they could've gotten elsewhere, but I'd hardly call it a discount. I like Ryan, and wouldn't mind him with the Flyers. But the cost has to be right.

Yeah definitely. Wouldn't it be amazing if the Flyers were able to grow a legitimate 1st line scoring winger from within the organization through drafting? So much cheaper. Is Schenn that guy (probably not as he's a natural center). Perhaps Wayne Simmonds? |

For me the fact Ryan is/was a local kid and a fan growing up helps. He made controversial comments nearing his end with the Ducks that he'd like to play for the Flyers, so there is some passion there. Now, is he the best and most suitable fit for the Flyers, probably not but he might be the best player available in 10-11 months and he may want to hear what the Flyers have to say first. I want a scorer to play with Giroux. Voracek is fine, I like him but he doesn't shoot nearly as much as I would like for a guy who is likely not to be separated from Giroux. Again, it would be great to pick up Kane with the Jets but we don't even know if he's available, regardless if the player is happy there or not. |

People keep saying Schenn is a natural center but I don't really buy it. He doesn't look out of place on center or wing to me. He just needs to find more of the desire to be more of an impact player, the same way he played in the 2010 World jr's for example. |

Did anyone see that in Gaborik till he went to LA?
But I wouldn't go above $6 million AAV for Ryan. And I don't know if the Flyers will have that kind of room to spare. |

I did. Gaborik was hurt most of the season but prior has made a living out of scoring.
Edit
I think I was more surprised with Justin Williams but never realized he'd already had a history of such clutch play. |

I agree with the 2nd paragraph. Let other teams give up players for him. I would just sit and wait and see what happens and the end of 2015. He's a good player but I feel he is going to be in for a huge a pay day I'm not sure the Flyers can afford. |

The Flyers did grow a legitimate 1st line scoring Winger in Carter. Whom they used to acquire Voracek, who is also a legitimate 1st line scoring Winger.
