Ok, so I just actually looked at his stats. Hr was a tank in 08-09.
He scored at a 0.84 ppg clip this season in about 60 games. Needless to say, that's not exactly poopting the bed. - Giroux_Is_God
The point I was making is, Parise is playing at home right now. |

....and...succeeding? Definitely not flopping, anyway.
I don't know where this is going.
Just wait til ROB BYRON comes home. Can you say 120 point season??! |

For some guys it works. Eddie Olczyk had some really good years on his hometown team in Chicago, as did Chris Chelios.
Joffrey Lupul was a mess in Edmonton and a lot of it was blamed on him pressing himself too hard to be good for the hometown fans. - Jsaquella
Not sure it would go too well for Ryab... he's not that kind of lunch pail, hates-to-lose, do-whatever-it-takes kind of player that Philly fans stick by. He's a lot more Jeff Carter/JvR than Bob Clarke. Hyper skilled, but a bit too easy going. |

Sometimes going home is a nightmare, for others it's a breath of fresh air. So much was made of Eric Lindros wanting to play for the Leafs for so long, just for him to have a terrible season.
Is Jimmy Dowd the only native of New Jersey to ever win a Cup in New Jersey? - SuperSchennBros
That was pretty much the exact point I made in my initial post. Noted a couple of guys who did well playing for their hometown team and a guy who had his worst season for his hometown team
I believe that Dowd is the only NJ native to win a Stanley Cup |

I don't believe Toews should be as good as Stamkos at a 93 rating.
Kesler shouldn't be a 90 at all. Certainly not better then Kane at 89 or as good as Giroux at 90.
I also take exception to Corey Crawford being an 89. |

I think he'd score goals and that might be enough. I wouldn't target him unless guys like Simmonds or Schenn were traded away for defense help and he was available as a UFA |

Interestingly enough I feel the Flyers could use a Jeff Carter or James van Riemsdyk now then ever. Even more then a Mike Richards. It seems like for a long stretch of drafts, we were drafting the next Bob Clarke every year. |

The bigger need is a Doughty, Keith, McDonagh.
They could probably shuffle the lines around and get 30+ goals from guys already on the team. Not to belabor it, but Matt Read's had two 20 goal seasons and a third where he was on pace for 20 playing a shut down role.
Instead of looking for a Carter or van Riemsdyk elsewhere, look in our own yard. |

Oh my god yes.
Corey Crawford: the league's best mediocre goalie. I've said this for a few seasons now.
That being said, they're video game ratings...I don't put much stock into a crew that had G as a right winger in NHL 13 |

Not really. They added Voracek & Simmonds. Two good twenty goal scorers, who should be able to add to their totals. They have Read scoring 22 in a shut down role. Offense and goal scoring isn't the issue. They have Schenn and Couturier who are getting better ever year that can add offense. Hell you keep beating the Lecavalier drum.
The issue is they are missing a all situations, legitimate number one defenseman and they need to be better at 5 on 5.
While I don't like the JvR trade, I'd make the Carter and Richards trades any day. |

Nobody's arguing that he doesn't fit an immediate need.
Ryan's pretty sensitive though. You could see it in how he dealt w/ the trade rumors in ANA, and how he dealt w/ the Team USA snub. He seems to take things personally, and he's not shy about speaking out about his unhappiness, either.
If things go south for him here on the ice, and the fans/media turn on him, it could get really ugly. |

I don;t even think he fits an immediate need that can't be filled from within. Slide Read or Simmonds up to Giroux's line, and I'm very confident they'd score 30+ goals. I think if Schenn is the LW with Giroux and Voracek he could approach 30.
The cost would be far too extravagant for the need. |

Yeah, well...poop happens.
Perhaps Schenn-Giroux-Voracek will be just as good.
It was a bad trade, in terms of value. Not much can be done now. I'm not going to worry about it, when they can probably turn a guy still here into a similar producer to JvR. |

I don't know if I agree with this but I'm not necessarily going to disagree either. Let's not forget Giroux was also snubbed and while not much was said about it within the media, I like how Giroux responded with his play. Ryan also played pretty well to the best of his ability and probably wasn't playing on what was considered the top line in Ottawa.
We've seen players speak out when unhappy before Jeremy Roenick rarely kept his mouth closed. You know it's funny, not to stir the pot but when Barber was fired was probably one of the very few times Roenick did remain tight lipped. |

If they still have Simmonds, Schenn, Read and the current top 9 forwards, and still lack a number one defenseman, I don't even approach Ryan, unless I have a trade to send one of the others out of town for a defenseman.
They have a huge need on defense. Adding Ryan, even as a UFA, doesn't fill it and might make it more difficult to do so.
Now, let's say they trade Simmonds for Bogosian next summer at the draft. Great, then definitely I'd have interest in Ryan. |

Yeah but a player who could be had right now who's legit? A number defenseman should cost a lot more then what it would take to get Ryan. I don't see a win/win unless we simply wait for Morin or Sanheim to develop.
I have no interest in trading Simmonds. He's signed long term to a sweet deal. |

I would never trade Coburn for Zach Bogosian in a million years but would any of you consider Coburn for Erik Johnson if it were possible? |
