What legit contender dresses a player like Rinaldo every game?
Did Hextall not watch the Rags 4th line dismantle the Flyers 4th line every shift in that playoff series last year?

Waste of time. Rewarding a guy who regressed to the mean. I want 4th liners who win faceoffs, kill penalties, strong in the d zone, and chip in once in a while offensively. Rinaldo does none of these things. Dumb.

I think we can all agree that he had a bad year last season. However he is young, has good wheels, plays hard and has shown flashes of skill in practice. He also did a nice job as an agitator the prior season.

Maybe the coaching staff feels that there is more to his game than we have seen so far. Either way it's a no risk signing. If he surprises us and plays well, then you have him under contract for 2 more years at a very reasonable number. If not, you can waive/demote him at any time with no cap implications.

Agreed -- I wouldn't have done it, but at the same time, the guy can skate and does play hard. You don't have to question his heart.

He just has to be a better hockey player. Maybe he can't, or won't. But maybe, just maybe, he comes in this year and recognizes that Downie and Hartnell are gone, so you'd better stick to playing hockey and becoming a better player.

I know they should keep going towards this path & want them to but who knows if & when a new toy becomes available if they do anything to get it

I commend them for not doing anything this summer, other than moving Hartnell -- probably would've been easy to just cut bait on the Schenns, but I'm glad they didn't
