all of which i agree with, which leads me to ask: how does a player of his ability, or lack thereof, not only earn an nhl roster spot, but also a 2 year extension before the final year of his contract has expired? - hammarby31
For one, the player has more ability then a lot of fans give him credit for. And secondly, the team sees potential in the player, and likely wants to show they have confidence in the player, in the hopes that the pressure of having to play for a contract is removed, and he can just concentrate on getting better as a player, in a comfortable situation. |

Actually I think it would be. They are all very responsible defensively and have some offense and speed in their game. - ManCity
Laughton and Bellemare have zero NHL experience. Raffl would be great on the 4th line, but sadly, this team will need him in the top 9. Not to mention the line would have zero physicality. |

I believe, you are putting too much trust in that projected line. 2/3 players do not have NHL experience.
Additionally, raffl may need to play in the top 9 at times.
I do believe however that each and everyone of these players is more responsible than rinaldo

The police say they have had no dealings with Sid, and the Pens say he's in Colorado training. Great job, Sun.

One of our stars is probably more likely to get run in retaliation for one of Rinaldo's big hits. |

We were lucky the only player Rinaldo concussed with a dirty hit was a Buffalo nobody and it was the last game of the season against them. |

Actually, it was Bieber, whom they mistook for Crosby. The Biebs must've thrown a junk punch from behind in his assault case.

How does one mistake Bieber for crosby? Unless Bieber and crosby were together. |

Come to think of it, has anyone actually seen Bieber and Crosby in the same place at the same time??

Randy Jones did not suck, so that is a bad retort on your part. What affected Randy Jones after he signed the contract was a hip injury that he never fully recovered from. Context is always required. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Rinaldo Contract Extension, Prospect Updates, Quick Hits - bmeltzer
I don't have the same issues with Rinaldo that others do. Rinaldo will never be Steve Ott, who to me is the ultimate agitator that brings solid faceoff work and penalty killing, which I've learned quickly still isn't enough to please this fan base. My issue with Rinaldo is lack of growth since his rookie year. I like Rinaldo but he has to bring more then smooth skating, big hits and fighting. I perfer he brings what Carcillo or Downie brings, which is a little more offense. Somewhere between 5 to 10 goals if healthy. |

You might be right. Dont mistaken me for saying Rinaldo is the next Laperriere. I am just saying he's a decent 4th line guy. He isnt great, he isnt horrible either. We could have better. I agree with that.
Personally I would rather they play a 4th line of
Raffl-Laughton-Bellemare. Hows that for defense and mild skill? - GOA88
Laughton needs at least 3rd line minutes. I'd rather him play 1st line centre in ahl then waste his talents on the fourth line playing 6 mins a game. |

There's no reason a 4th line has to play only 6 minutes a game. Lots of good teams like the Ducks and Blackhawks play their 4th lines more than that.

Exactly. And I think this is the disconnect with the whole Rinaldo thing.
People think of "4th line" and they think limited minutes or "energy" line. It can be more than that limited notion of what a "4th line" does. Furthermore, a good 4th line can limit wear and tear on your other lines. |

I'd like to see the Flyers 4th line play around 8-10 minutes a game on average. But I'd also like to see them have the ability to play more then that in certain game situations, such as 3rd periods with a 2 goal lead. I'd like to have a 4th line that can be trusted to play in a defensive checking role, rather then having to shorten the bench in that situation. |
