Me and my friends are an example of the new homegrown lightning fans. We been fans passionately for 2 years now. In that timespan we've gained extensive knowledge of the game its players, started playing hockey both real life and videogame. Any who, I love this damn sport and can't wait to break my bank account going to games this year baby!

Don't question it . I played hockey my whole life and just this past year got intense into watching every lightning game and into every social media coverage available out there about the bolts and my knowledge has grown a lot too |

Just busting balls, I love that Hockey has grown at the grass roots level, just used to battling Penguins and Hawks fans who think they know everything about building a team when they only became fans after the more recent cup wins. |

Winning and classy franchises attract new fans, expansion/non-traditional markets or otherwise. |

While I'm sure he means what he says about staying in Tampa, and wanting to win there. I don't buy for a second he hit that favorite button "on accident." - Rawrski8771
That's where he lost me too. He is obviously full of it (And I believe he will stat in Tampa), |

Who was the last useful free agent to sign in Toronto? - Brandon
Useful free agents don't sign anywhere. They stay on their teams.
We did get a superstar in Kessel to re-sign for 8 years. |

Exactly. I struggle to name 10 great UFA's in recent memory somewhat still in their primes that didn't re-sign.
1.Chara
2.Suter
3.Parise
4.Hossa
5.B Richards
6.Bouwmeester
Seriously, I'm stumped to see any more All-Stars that tested the waters and jumped ship.

Chara might be the best UFA signing ever. But there really isn't UFA's that are available to sign anymore. |

I would say iginla, stralman, Miller, niskanen are all useful. Thats just a few examples from this years agency. |

I like Iginla, but i'll pass on the others.
Niskanen has 1 good season by 27. He's a big risk.
My point is, people can say why big-name UFA's don't sign in Toronto. They really barley sign anywhere.
Phil Kessel is better than anyone you mentioned and he stayed for 8 years. |

I dunno...did their teams really push that hard to re-sign them/make room for them? |

Lots of players are useful. I think the Leafs did pick up a few useful guys this off-season.
But guys that put you over-the-top? Really rare to see them hit the market.

I thought the Leafs did a very good job of getting quality talent for cheap this offseason. |

Just to let you know, I play in a beer league here in Tampa Bay once a week, year round. Our league has 20 teams and almost 300 players. There are different leagues/level every night of the week except Friday (high school leagues play that night). And we have 3 other rinks in the bay like that and one more being built in Wesley Chapel to accommodate more players. Yes, a lot of players are transplants but more and more have grown up in the area. The hockey base is growing here. Now that a full generation has grown up as Lightning fan, the Lightning fan base is great, and quite knowledgeable. |

As it should be, I'm sure a lot of kids got into hockey with the Cup win, and they should all be late teens, young adults by now. Was that the key in TBay? A championship? |

Definetely helped. Having Vinny and Marty as the faces of the franchise for so long was good. Vinny's incredible community footprint and now Vinik is an awesome owner. We've had recognizable stars as a staple on the team for long period of time. Florida? Pheonix? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head... |

Come on, after talking to Stevie he had to kinda deny the Fact he wants to return to Toronto and be a SuperStar.
He can't say that yet, not fair to Bolts Fans. |

Come on, after talking to Stevie he had to kinda deny the Fact he wants to return to Toronto and be a SuperStar threatened after every game he doesn't score a hat trick that he should kill himself and that he is the reason the leafs suck.

There, that makes more sense .
He said himself he is able to take a break from the game when need be in tampa, something he couldn't do in toronto, he said he enjoys BEATING the leafs, not playing for them. he will be there when hes 38 years old, after spending 2 decades with the lightning and winning cups |
