He absolutely was. He wanted speed and forechecking. The Flyers are'nt a speedy team. Sooo.. wtf - GOA88
That's how he wants to play though. Holmgren knew this before he hired him. Nothing really changed during his tenure he wanted to play the same way. His style will work but you need stud Dmen of the 2 way variety (Like Pronger, Timonen). Instead holmgren kept collecting square pegs (L Schenn, Grossman instead of trading for Oduya) to jam into round holes. I blame the GM for not getting the correct pieces for him more than anything Lava did. The Pronger injury really f'ed things up too.
I think Lava's style fits that Nashville D really well. We'll see how he does. |

Yeah and that seems like the most realistic explanation. They were totally owned by those two teams. However, they were competitive, like when they beat the Devils in 5 games during the 2010 run to the Stanley Cup final. I guess that Richie and Carter trade had a lot to do with it. And the boneheaded defensive signings from Holmgren. Not to mention having a lack of prospects to pick from to at least help Lavy move forward with his vision.
In the end though, having players like Simmonds and Voracek, I dont regret those trades for a minute. We wound up getting 4 really good players in return (Coots, Jake, Simmer, and Baby Schenn). Plus Berube is looks like a quality coach in the end, so I guess it all works out. - justahockeyguy2
Berube still has much to prove IMO |

I like Berube, but I see him as a stop gap, honestly. He seems like a toned-down version of Keenan. |

Agreed, but those forwards are polar opposite to what is needed for his style IMO
It'll be interesting |
