The team isn't impoverished, that's the mistake you make. Your post highlights that perfectly. The owner is losing/has lost tons of money in his other ventures so he is taking money out the organization to cover those losses. - Mikelly_18
Apologize, should have used a higher sarcasm indicator. |

Story in Sun this afternoon that there are no talks between Methot and Sens.
Cup 06 indicated early on last season that the Sens would be open to dealing Methot. I have heard over the past couple of weeks that Methot's agent has let it be known he expects that Murray is going to trade him.
Methot is a good player in a league desperate for shut down Dmen.
Not sure what Murray is looking to get back. Does he want the perfect defensive partner for Karlsson? Or, could this be the top 6 hard forward we heard so much about at the beginning of the season?
The Sun story reads an awful lot like a planted story intending to prepare people for coming news.
My preference is that the Sens resign him. |

Another story in Sun just came up saying Murray is looking to add "top 9" forward. Maybe it is just beginning of preseason chatter. |

I don't understand this move at all...It's bonkers to be frank. There's a logjam in offense, why add to it? |

I wouldn't say there's a logjam. It wouldn't hurt to improve your guys forwards |

if the idea is to bring in a legit top six winger (1st or really good 2nd liner)......i'm down.
if the plan is to bring in another top 9 guy (assuming that means average 2nd or 3rd liner), then yes, we have a log jam |

Sad to see you go Travis, I've read 99% of your Sens blogs since you sarted posting on HB. I can't honestly remember the guys name who blogged for ottawa before you. Hope to see you around the comments section for years to come.
HB has truely lost one of the top bloggers in it's exsistance. We've been truely spoiled having your amazing insights & advanced stats knowledge as Sens fans. You've always managed to make your posts very interesting, even in the slow times during summer.
Best of luck on your new adventure Travis! |

Defense should be the priority of management. I don't know what they see in Gryba and Borowiecki, not to mention Ceci, Phillips, and Cowen who are all big ?s. Wiercioch isn't well liked by the coach and now they have the balls to think about trading away arguably their 2nd best defenseman in Methot???! |

I just don't think Murray will do something small. Way too many guys pushing for for playing time in bottom six.

Kadri came in at 47th for GF on per 60 minutes among 162 centers playing 50 + games. He was 140th for GA on per 60 minutes. Not very good on the differential. Turris is top 10. |

Agreed.
Ottawa has a too many B6 fwds and too many B2 dmen. I think Murray is either looking to make a trade with a team that needs depth (multi-player from Ottawa, with single gyu coming back), or he going to wait it out and see if anyone of these guys is going to take a step forward....

Be careful on Gryba his numbers are pretty good. I think he can be very good if partnered with the right guy. |

I'm willing to give Gryba and Greening another shot, half a season to be clear. No more, no less. If they can't play decent hockey ship'em out at the deadline for picks at the coveted 2015 draft.
Brunner would be interesting. He's more of a 3rd/4th line player who can score and has some speed. I'd like to see a 4th line of Greening-Smith-Brunner. <-- that could be a very solid 4th line. As a result we'd probably have to move Condra and Boro, which honestly isn't a big loss. |

Gryba should be happy if he can stick in the NHL as a #6/7 dman for the rest of his career. |

Gryba, Borowiecki, Greening, Neil, Philips & Condra are all replacable players.
These 6 players curently take up just under $10.1 million in cap this year.
I Think 3 of the 6 should be traded for anything we can get.
Condra could walk via UFA after this season, but he may be the best player of the 6.
If Philips is terrible after this year he may retire with 1 year left on his contract?
Borowiecki could be placed on waivers & be put down in Binghampton.
Neil is the perfect 13th forward for the next 2 seasons as he wraps up his career.
Gryba is a good 6-7 Defencemen for 2 more seasons, then UFA.
Greening is the guy I'd like to see have a comeback year as he's under contract for 3 more seasons.
