Well, seems as if I won't be going to tsn anymore. I can't believe they found a writer more naustiating then the douchebags they already employ.

well, on the brightside, if you're no longer on that site, the number of douchebag fans decreases by one - sensarmy_11
I hope I don't get banned for this, but what that guy just said was very much what a wienerhead would say. Good job calling him out. I can't say I always agreed with Yost, but he did do his homework and knew what the (frank) he was talking about. He wasn't a meathead like Cloutier and the old Canucks blogger, and he took the time to listen to other's points of view. I only hope that the TSN job doesn't change him. |

Yost working for TSN:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=461912 - Nucker101
Eesh...Still hyper-analytical. At least he's staying true to his strength. It's not for me though.
I get that the Leafs hired a stats guru and now T$N is hoping to do the same, but I can't see this type of writing becoming very popular with fans. The first sentence lost me. "Optimal player deployment" is not a term normally used outside of front office meetings and it's not one that I think will catch on, but that's just me. Read his last paragraph and you can skip all the charts and jargon to get to the point (why that particular point needs to be made, I'm not sure).
Good luck Yost (if you ever read this). I imagine there's a market for this stuff and I'm glad they picked you to be one of the top hockey analytics writers in Canada. |

I believe Scott Cullen is leaving TSN and Yost is his replacement.
EDIT: Never mind, I am incorrect. |

There's a lot of patient fans out there who like to look into and pick apart the little details of the game, me being one of them.
It's fine if you're not one of them, (hell, by the looks of Yosts first column comments there's plenty of idiots who couldnt' take the time to read the article but still found the time to comment about how boring it was) but I expect there's more than enough people out there reading this stuff to keep his page hits up nice and high. |

i think there could be problems if the posts remain general. i think it's interesting when the stats are specific to a player or team that someone is interested in.....but you probably lose a lot of interest when you're talking league wide analytics.
maybe that's just me |

This is exactly bang on.
I could care less about the league wide player by player advanced stats. Team corsi, sure, but I have a feeling that the only way he will be able to fill two articles per week, is to go so in depth that it will feel like reading a text book.
When he was doing with the Sens players, it was awesome, because as Sens fans, we watch these guys every game and want to know more. Most of the time, it's just to validate how we feel that 'Greening sucks', or 'Condra is better than his points show'. That said, I have zero interest (or time) to read up on that stuff about other teams' players.
Working for TSN, I hope he focuses on the Canadian teams cause he will at least get the fans from those teams clicking his articles.
Edit: with all that said, I feel as though he would be best used during the trade deadline, the draft and free agency day. During those times of high player movement, people will be most interested in advanced stats helping them decide who won trades, or if free agents were worth what they were paid, etc. |

yah, or stat analysis is being used to discuss an interesting topic that there is a lot of grey area on . ie: what he wrote about ek. that being said, i'm not a huge, huge, fan of yost's writing... but i do believe some of it is really great and really resonates with topics i find interesting. i'm happy for him. |

this is a good question. who is the new sens blogger? are they just gonna let us comment on this page forever. ?
|
|
|

We need a new Sens blogger or something. When the Oilers needed a new guy, they let some random guys post blogs until they found a set guy. Maybe same thing needs to happen with the Sens. Longer the buzz goes without a Sens blogger, the more Sens posters they will loose. |

Would love too see him blog, that way people will actually have written proof for all the times he's been wrong. He does play "my opinion is fact" persona really well though and many "non-thinkers"(nice way to put it) would likely believe him too.
I'd be Yost 2.0, except in easier terms of understanding and make it easier for the non-stat or TLDR guys to follow. - Nucker101

That's a shame. I was gonna write about how Eric Staal will have a nice bounceback season with 70+ points. |

Just saw the news on TSN Travis, congratulations.
Although I don't frequently comment and I dislike the Senators, I always took the time to read your blogs simply because it was worth my time.
Good luck with TSN Travis, you have a bright future as a writer and will be missed here.
