Whoa. I got a bottle of Elijah 18yo in Miami about 3-4 years ago for like $50 US I think. There was a bottle of Pappy 20yo there for $250 at the time. They've really jacked the price on that elijah18. - aschuter82
Internet research indicates they stopped production, then did a limited released for a suggested retail of $200. That explains it.
The 18 year was for many years the most affordable extra-aged bourbon and is now universally missed. It has become, in Greg's words, the girl from high school that you never really noticed until she was gone. I will pull a hipster and assert that I liked it before it was cool: I thought it stood up well to Pappy and was criticized for this. But even I took for granted that I could pretty much wait for the periodic sales when it would dip below $40 and not give it too much of a second thought. Now it is off the market in favor of the $130, 20 year version. God I wish I had bunkered a case of this stuff. That said, your experience may vary a bit as with all single barrel products, but definitely buy this if you can find it. If you do not enjoy it I will happily dispose of any unused portion.

I recall not finding it much better than the 12yo. But I wasn't about to turn it down when I saw an affordable 18yo.
Yeah, the tattoos are bad as (frank). |

okay. at first i was afraid, i was petrifryed.
(holy smokes. okay, now that that's out of the way..)
i figured a rye was going to be too spicy for me. i remember the bulleit rye not being my favorite. but to be fair, that was the first whiskey i ever bought that wasn't jack or jim. so maybe my tastes have just changed since then and my buds kind of know what they're looking at now.
it's definitely spicy. more than a bourbon anyway. but it's interesting and i like it. it will be nice to mix in a glass every once in a while to change things up.
it's probably 7.5 streit2thepoints out of 10. |

i've had jack a couple times but i was already wasted so i don't know if i like it compared to regular bourbon
and i've never had crown royal
i almost bought this last week:
but i just went with bulleit instead because i am not an adventurous man - Shutdown
i was looking at this in the store tonight because i was standing in the aisle reading reviews on my phone like a nerd and one of them mentioned how great this was. but it was too expensive.
also, i think it was you that keeps telling me to try blantons so i looked at that but it was also really pricey here. |

i've been doing extensive research for weeks now (i'm actually obliterated right now) and i was surprised to find that the buffalo trace stuff is actually a notch ahead for me.
the four roses single barrel was my favorite bourbon in my head and i basically willed everyone to buy it for me for christmas. but there's just something about the buffalo trace taste that has put it ahead to me recently. for affordable daily sippers i go buffalo trace and four roses yellow label.
but my top three for overall bourbon is currently:
buffalo trace
eagle rare
four roses single barrel |

i'm going to look to see if we have it around here. there's always at least three kinds of crown royal in our stores. and i have had good experiences with canadian whisky. it's always soft and smooth to me which i kind of like.

i'm making a conscious choice to live this way. the other option is sleeping pills and that means being more like crims, and putting more money in watson's pockets |
