was in ottawa today, picked up the cheap 4 roses yellow label.
it's probably not as good as bulleit, but it's about $10 cheaper, and miles ahead of anything else in the same price range
i'm now mad i don't have regular access to it |

isn't it amazing? it's a lifesaver when you work in inventory control for a poopty company with the salary of a work-release program highway cleaning guy. |

Russels? - Pie
i haven't had it.
i just looked it up and it's like 55 bucks here so either i never see it in the stores i go to or the price always makes me check other things out first and then i end up buying one of those. |

I will grab it this week and report whether it is better than woodfords. I had the 81 proof wild turkey and I found it thin. |

after all the whiskeys i've tried and written long bullpoop about i've somehow never fuxed with wild turkey.
for some reason i thought of it as like a jim beam or jack daniels whiskey. like a name that you hear about but it never turns out to be a really good whiskey. but the more i read about them i realize they have some stuff i'm supposed to be trying.
i am interested to hear your thoughts on the russell's. |

i'm not a jack fan. wild turkey is much better than jim beam. i actually like wild turkey more than basil hayden which i think is the the most overpriced bottle there is |

brought a bottle of russels back from yankeville a few years back. I remember it being a bit sweeter and mellower than most wild turkey offerings. Pretty good stuff.
the 81 proof is pretty lame imho
the 101 proof is a decent upgrade
rare breed is where its at, pretty ballsy and peppery
russels is probably their best rounded offering.
not sure if they still do kentucky spirit, but i found that to be a slightly more refined version of rare breed. |

i'm in full agreement here. brother in law was wanting to get into bourbon and asked for recommendations, he said he was thinking of tryin basil haydens. i steered him toward the elijah craig 12 yo instead. |

It really is. I tried it again thinking it may have been ruined by the glass of woodfords I had before and it was just thin slightly honeyed water |

it was really good, a little on the sweet side for me the caramel seems very prominent at first |

i have heard this. i think i always shied away from wild turkey because you hear the name so much that i figured it was like budweiser to beer.
also buying wild turkey just doesn't seem as sexy as buying something that i've never heard of like redemption bourbon and taking it home to try.
i'm like, "redemption, yeah. all of my sins will be washed away. a clean slate starting tomorrow!"
with wild turkey i'm afraid you just wake up with a stupid bird in your back yard with a lampshade on his head.

see, as a canadian, i almost romanticize wild turkey because of how american it sounds. seems like the real deal
regular wild turkey is better than jim beam but still not great compared to like bulleit and whatnot but 101 holds up
