welp. i went to maryland.

when i walked into the house, fresh off the 3 hour drive, i played it real cool and didn't mention it until somebody else did. thankfully it didn't take too long and pretty soon i was standing there with the bottle in one hand and a glass in the other. the 23 year old. i thought about how crazy this was.

now i'm not gonna lie, i end up with an ice cube or two in a lot of bourbons after i get the initial taste. but as you might suspect, i never even thought about an ice cube, initially or at any other time during the course of the festivities. this is the easiest drinking bourbon ever. it just has to be. i know i'll never taste an easier one. people use the term "it goes down like water" all the time but those people are over-dramatic assholes (scroll up). this really does go down like water. wait, that's over-dramatic. but it goes down seriously easy. there's no burn on your tongue really at all. a little warm in the belly, but even that is super minimal.

the taste is off the charts. tastes are everywhere. toffee, coffee, chocolate (i think), and raisins (!) or something similar to raisins.. all kinds of tastes. none of the tastes punch you in the mouth. they're all just floating around. it's powerful but at the same time it's not really a bully about it.

i've always been searching for what i felt like a wheated bourbon was ever since the first day i read about them. as i found some in my price range i could feel the difference but, as good as they were, in the back of my mind i knew they still weren't reaching that mythical status i'd imagined. it turns out it wasn't a myth after all because this stuff is exactly what i pictured. it's every taste i want a bourbon to have and so soft and smooth that you could chug this like it was lemonade (you shouldn't, but you could).

i knew there was no way i could write a big review with enough of "the flourish" to do this bourbon justice. so i'm just telling you what i tasted and all that jazz. there's nothing i can write that would adequately explain.

just know that as far as i'm concerned the people who call this the holy grail of bourbon are 100% right. there's nothing more i can even ask for out of a bourbon. it was the best tasting, softest, smoothest bourbon i've ever tasted or will ever taste again.

it really is unlike any other bourbon i've ever tasted. everything about it is 100x better than even the best of any other bourbon i've had.

it's like 27 on a scale of 1-10.

I've had the 12 and the 20. still have like 2 shots left of the last bottle of 20 i got like 9 years ago when you could still find pappy bottles and affordable. i don't wanna finish it because then its gone.

They had the 12 up here in the lc back in like 2011-2012, but haven't seen it since. Any of the larue/pappy stuff they bring like 4 bottles into toronto and lotto them off or at least thats what they were doing the last time i checked.

I never had the 23, but the 20 is without a doubt the best bourbon i've had. nothing has ever come close.

it's almost sad in a way because i know i have at least a few years left on the planet and now i've tasted the best i'll ever taste. the chase is over. but there's literally zero chance i'd ever get another opportunity to taste this so i'm glad it happened.

finally tried the 10 year old bulleit

it's great but probably not worth the few extra bucks from the regular stock

i still prefer 4 roses single barrel or blanton's special reserve at a similar price

i stare at it sometimes and i was afraid that it wasn't worth it. ty, friend. now i know not to waste my money. i'm still gonna get that blanton's though. it's the next one on my list. somehow i have never gotten around to it. probably because it used to be really overpriced around here but lately it looks like the price is coming down a little.

i will say i've had a couple more drinks of the bulleit, give it a try. kinda reminds me of the first time i tried eagle rare. took me a 2nd or 3rd drink to get used to it

that being said, buffalo trace is stupidly expensive here compared to you guys, and given the choice between both i'd go buff trace every time

buffalo trace $40 canadian
bulleit 10 year $50
regular bulleit $35

i would make the same choice.

also, that is crazy that buffalo trace is $40 up there. it's consistently $26.99 for me. and it's my go-to for sure.

And also the sellers, in a way. They doing it so they can keep paying their remaining employees paid (for a little while, at least)

I admit if I was selling it, I'd be mightily tempted to first swap the contents with some bottom-shelf stuff, making sure the color of the liquid was the same, and then saving the nice stuff for myself after all this craziness is over.

Probably why I can't own a liquor store. Or a pot dispensary.

Say, what happened to the "Corona 2" thread? Did someone get carried away? POed that I might have missed the fun.

there's a very slow, dumb moderator. they get upset at pictures of fit, pretty girls.

sometimes when they get hungry and can't get grubhub to deliver a few buckets of KFC in a timely fashion due to a pandemic, they get grumpy and start looking for threads to lock.

then someone makes a new one and they chase their tail all over again. it gives everyone something to do.

also, i agree about the sellers doing that to pay their employees. good people all around.
