;et's jist see
the old grand-dad has always been weird to me because it sits right next to a different bottle of old grand-dad that i hear is very basic but this bonded jawn is supposed to be pretty good.
the george dickel is just a cheaper brand of whiskey so i decided to try their rye since i'm into that now.

okay so the old grand-dad is interesting.
first of all i really like the label for some reason.
but about the booze, at first you're like "oh this is fine for 100 proof" while it's sitting on your tongue but then once you swallow it you do get a really long, pretty warm burn. it's shorter after the first sip, but that first sip seems to be getting your tongue ready for the rest of the glass for sure. whipping you into shape.
it's pretty good though. i knew it was time to finally try it because the "high rye" part. it's spicy like you'd expect but it's still sweet because it's a bourbon so i think this is pretty good for me for $27 or whatever it cost me.

the george dickel rye went down like iced tea on the first sip so i think my tongue is burned out from the high proof on the last one. i should have done these in the opposite order.
second sip, too. this is pretty light. i can't taste anything with my tongue still buzzing.

i let some time pass. ate a little. but now i'm back.
it's funny, there's plenty of spiciness to the george dickel rye i just couldn't taste it before.
it's okay. kind of ordinary i guess. not as good as the redemption rye. but it's cheaper than redemption rye. i'll happily finish it but it's the kind of thing where i've had it but don't feel like i need to buy it again. i think knob creek's rye may be next.
i did do these last 2 without ice, which i don't usually do. so maybe they'll be different with ice or some water or something.

okay, so here's what's up.
it's spicy alright. but not right away. when the sip is swirling around in your mouth you taste some mentholy, tobacco-ey, sweetness but there's like 2% burn or tingle, but as soon as you swallow it the spicy tingle hits hard and stays there much longer than usual after the sip. it's a nice experience.
it's not vanilla sweet like a bourbon, but it's sweet. just a different kind of sweet or something.
i think this might have been on sale but i got it for $33. if that's the normal price it's a real bargain because it tastes like a more expensive bottle. to me, at least.
anyway, this is a winner. redemption is still my favorite rye right now but this is right behind it and i am looking long and hard at that knob creek rye.

been seeing a few things about Pappy......still cant find any or (frank)ing Blanton's - KINGKENZO
they're impossible now. so hard to find.
but there was an article a few months back that buffalo trace is going to broaden their offerings soon and it sounds like it will help bring the demand for some things back down to earth. like pappy variants and things like that.
