thoughts on the big internet reveal of craft bourbon/rye supposedly being all bogus? i don't know enough by a mile to comment so i am curious to hear what you all think - -davies-
Old news.
But important reading for any Bourbon fan thinking of spending big dollars on a bottle.
Bourbon has a well documented history of bullpoop marketing. |

dave,
continuing our conversation from yesterday in another realm altogether, i had my hand on a bottle of the hakushu. which i really want to try. but i chickened out because it was like 60 or 70 bucks.
i seriously downgraded my standards and expectations and bought a bottle of crown royal because i have canadian friends now. i don't know if i've ever had it before.
i know my father liked it. i will try not to hold that against crown royal though.

this isn't whisky. what's going on here? i feel i've been bamboozled. (WHAT?!) hoodwinked. (WHAT?!) duped. (WHAT?!) swindled. (WHAT?!) it's a ruse.
i can drink it. i even like it. but it's not whisky. or if it is, it's whisky with vanilla extract or something added.
holy crap this stuff is sweet. i keep looking for sugar packets floating around in there. |

FRANKFORT, Ken-- Another iconic bourbon brand in Kentucky has been targeted in a heist, but this time authorities say they have arrested a suspect caught with the stash of whiskey in his backyard.
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said Thursday his deputies recovered five barrels filled with bourbon. He says the barrels were taken from the Wild Turkey Distillery in nearby Lawrenceburg.
The sheriff said one arrest has been made in the ongoing investigation.
Melton said each barrel is valued between $3,700 and $6,000, but Wild Turkey officials took samples to determine the exact worth. He said labels on each barrel had been spray painted.
He can't yet say if the heist is connected with the unsolved 2013 theft of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and rye whiskey. That hard-to-get whiskey was taken from the Buffalo Trace Distillery at Frankfort.

i am working on my scotch spreadsheet. i will probably never get to try half of them but here is some of the wishlist.
Hakushu 12 Year Old
Yamazaki 12 Year Old
Glenmorangie 10 YR $42.99?
Glengoyne 10 $44.99??
Benromach Traditional Speyside $49.99??
Balvenie
Bruichladdich (the light blue bottle)) 53.99?
