that's a damn fine bourbon

my bourbon consumption has been at its lowest point in 10 years, i'm fighting the urge to get into the nice bottles I only have one or two drinks out of each year.

don't have kids, they really cut into disposable income/drinking money

i have noticed that my brother has taken to drinking the four roses that my relatives keep at their homes for when i come over. just a glass or two right now, but i'm starting to think introducing that alcoholic to bourbon was a mistake.

possible tactical error on my part.

i went for a bottle of buffalo trace and cherry hill liquors didn't have it (yes, the cherry hill from eklund's epic bobby ryan blog that i didn't read).

i had 4 roses at the apartment i was hanging out at but when i'm standing in a liquor store i get visibly excited (in the pants) and i have to try something new.

this is okay. i mean it's got a taste that i actually really enjoy. it's very sweet. not at all harsh. there's a little something at the end i'm not one hundo percent crazy about but i can't put my finger on exactly what it is so it must not be that bad.

i guess my problem with it is they charge $40 for it so i expect it to be better than a $30 bottle but it isn't. hell, buffalo trace is $26 and after buying this i wish they'd just had buffalo trace in stock.

anyway, it's good. let someone pour you a glass of theirs. but don't buy it yourself, especially if you're poor like me.

7.25 s2tpoints i guess if you factor in the price thing

bored so i'm doing a taste test with the newly and apparently world famous crown royal northern harvest rye and redemption rye.

i'm doing this for you, people. in no way is this due to any kind of addiction issue or because i just really want to get drunk and fall asleep.

the first thing i noticed is that even though the redemption is supposed to be stronger the crown royal kind of kicks a little more. the second thing i noticed is that the CR finish is like an hour long compared to the redemption and it tingles on your tongue. almost a burning sensation really until you're a few sips in. the third thing is that there's a serious cherry taste going on in the redemption that i never noticed before. like a dark ass red cherry. dark AF. red AF.

i've long since decided that i'm not really a rye guy compared to straight up bourbon, but that doesn't mean i don't like it and won't buy it. i just like bourbon more. rye seems a little harsh to me. which is weird because the supposedly high rye bourbons don't bother me and have actually been some of my favorites.

anyway, the reason i'm mentioning the rye/harsh thing is because when you drink two side by side one will obviously seem smoother than the other and since the CR kicks and burns harder the redemption seems to be the smoother of the two.

however, if you're looking for the nerd word "complexity" the redemption is not the droids you're looking for. it is very on-the-surface compared to the CR which has more levels than super mario bros 3 by comparison.

if you're one of these (frank)ing nose people, the redemption smells more like toffee or vanilla and the CR smells kind of like a sliced apple.

if color is your thing, (frank) off. just kidding, let's stay friends. the CR is like a shade darker than the redemption.

thank you for reading my expert review.
