Really liked everything I heard about Rieder.

This is one of those trades I hated at the time and just prayed that it wouldn't bite us in the ass.

Combined with his impressive offense was a lot of chatter that his 2 way game is also very good and despite his size there was buzz he could make the NHL as a bottom 6 forward.

I will say as much as I hated the trade it wasn't a situation where he traded away an asset that, at the time, filled a roster need.

We had: Hemsky, Yak, and Eberle all on the right side and they were not big enough as it was. I think we still had Omark floating around the organization as well at the time. So the loss of another small talented winger, while obviously a bad move, was not really seen by many as a huge loss because of organizational depth.
