Do you think Laughton starts as the 4th center?

I'd rather see Raffl in the top 9 at wing then 4th line C, at least in the regular season.
On a deep playoff team Raffl is an ideal 4th liner.

VL centering Raffl and Umby may not need to be too sheltered and could (if VL is fully recovered and can skate a bit better) turn into a decent 3rd line.

- Marc D

I'd start Laughton there, personally. I think he's ready

NHL scouts are capable of separating and looking at a player individually. See how strong he is, how healthy he is, how he is skating. If Lecavalier is the same player this season, as he was last season after the injury, the scouts will know and see that. Regardless of who he plays with.
- MJL

So you're saying there is no difference in his play whether he's playing on a line with Giroux and Voracek as opposed to Rinaldo and Rosehill? The lines will all start in the same position, will be asked to perform the same tasks, will be utilized exactly the same, will play against the same competition, and that Vinny's skills will be brought to the forefront no matter who his line mates are. Gotcha.

The problem was, who is the playmaker/puck carrier on the line?

BSchenn as a center was not super effective carrying the puck end to end or as a set up guy. Neither was Vinnie.

- Marc D

Exactly, I'm not sure that Berube will move Voracek to Lecavalier's line, which means he's looking at Raffl and Umberger or Akeson if they don't break up Read & Couts

So what you're telling me is that even if Lecvalier comes into the season, strong, playing well, and producing, that his ES icetime isn't going to increase. Regardless of how he plays? And that his play on the ice isn't going to determine how much ES icetime he gets?
- MJL

I'm telling you that Voracek is a first line player and Vinny is a 3rd line player in terms of ES minutes.

If Lecavalier's back become chronic, if he can't come to camp stronger and a better play then he was last year, after the injury. Then who is linemates are, isn't going to change that. The difference in the production of the two lines in your hypothetical will be due to Giroux and Voracek being much better players then Rinaldo and Rosehill are, not due to Lecavalier.
We saw it last year where the only skill Lecavalier was able to rely on was shooting the puck. Otherwise he was ineffective. Scouts aren't fools, and they are going to notice if a player is in severe decline regardless of who his linemates are.

So his strengths will be highlighted the same amount no matter who his linemates are and no matter what goals the coach asks that player's line to achieve? Playing in a shutdown role as opposed to a scoring role as opposed to a checking/energy role will show off his talents and level of play equally?

Well you can tell me anything you want. Lecavalier's icetime is going to be decided by how he plays. Not to mention who he plays with, along with game situations. And that Lecavalier could very well be among the leaders on the team in ES icetime this upcoming season if he's healthy and strong.

Kimmo Timonen has been the Flyers top defenseman, or one of them since he got here. Look at his ES icetime over the last 4 seasons or so. ES icetime is decided by a lot of factors.

Vinny Lecavalier's strengths and weaknesses as an individual player will not be masked regardless of who he plays with. When a team is looking at the value of acquiring Lecavalier as a player, they will be looking at him as an individual and evaluating what kind of shape he is in, how he is playing, how he is skating, etc. There isn't going to be a lot of interest in Lecavalier, if he remains a player whose only real strength is shooting from a stationary position from the right side of the ice, as he was after the injury last year. Regardless of who he plays with.

Agreed. Besides, we don't need Giroux getting sucker-punched and then have his head driven face-first into the ice if he pisses him off.

But I already bought a new Flyers foam finger and outlined my walking route on google maps with appropriate restaurants marked for a celebratory cheesestake binge. I also planned my eventual streaking incident and best method for touching a player on a float before being tackled by security. Too preemptive?

Oh certainly. I just think they could use a vet to be around these young 4th line kids heading up to the season. I would only sign Bertuzzi or any other try out if its a two way deal.

Did you decide on the best footwear to use to trample young children who may be in your way and/or set aside upwards of $5000 to buy every single piece of memorabilia commemorating the championship? Because if not, you're not a real fan.
