If I could afford box seats every game I'd go.

The same dolts that are crying on WGR are more than likely the same guys that make it unbearable to go to games because they handle their booze.

My sister got free tickets this week. It's amazing how easy it is for people who don't give two poops about football to get free tickets.

Isn't that the truth?? I usually avoid the home opener because the drunks are worse for that game. But this is one exception I'd make. Too bad tickets are so expensive. I can't justify spending that kind of money for 1 game. The couch will have to suffice this week.

I can't believe more teams haven't joined the Traverse City tourney. Maybe it's because of travel distance?

Great news for Bills fans.
There was a lot of talk about moving to TO... I think that would have been a big mistake. You can't tailgate up here like you can in the states. Which is 99% of the reason you go to an NFL game!
With Pegula buying the team are they still doing the Bills in TO series?

Thanks man. I would just about gaurentee the Bills series in TO is dead. There were no games scheduled up there this year, the Rogers Centre is ripping out the old turf since the Argos are no longer going to be there and they don't plan to have football there again. Plus ticket interest was already low and going to be lower now.

Look, I'm as glad as anyone the Bills are staying here, but using the Bills in Toronto series is a measure of whether the NFL would or wouldn't "work" up there is somewhat intellectually dishonest. The Bills were a mediocre to terrible team during that whole series. If the team was competent, you'd see more interest. Very few people are willing to shell out that kind of money to watch some of the worst football the NFL has to offer, from a team that isn't even "theirs". If the roles of the Bills and the Patriots had been reversed throughout the 2000s, and the Bills were the team with a first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback and 3 championships, you can sure as hell bet they'd sell that place out. Call it bandwagon. Call it fair-weather. Call it whatever you like, but when you're trying to sell your product to a new market, you show off the best you have to offer, not the second rate shelf model that has multiple dings and scratches.

I don't really think that's true. They just don't care about a team that isn't theirs. The Bills fans in Toronto (for the most part) have always said they would rather take the 2 hour drive to Orchard Park.

Toronto having their own team is one thing, them pretending to be interested in the Bills for 1 week a year is another

That's essentially what I was saying. I have no idea what the ratio of Bills fans that would rather go to Orchard Park. They cite the game day experience, but remember, these are the same Toronto fans that would rather come down here to watch the Leafs play the Sabres instead of at the Air Canada Centre because it's so much cheaper down here. It's the same situation in Orchard Park. Money has a lot to do with it.

If the Bills games at Rogers Centre actually meant something as far as the NFL was concerned, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind you what have seen a better attendance result, even with the ticket prices. This was simply a case that the product being overpriced. And, like you said, it's something that isn't even "theirs".

I bet the attendance would be better, but I wouldn't go as far as a sell out.

Football just isn't that big there. They love Hockey and Soccer. Hell even the Jay's games don't sell out, they need the Yankees to play there multiple times a year

The Jays games did sell out during the World Series years though. There's definitely a bandwagon element to it, but Toronto/Canada is no different than here when it comes to most sports. Put up a winner, and people will show up. Nobody's going to shell out big market money for a brand new but piss poor product, not in today's economic climate.

Soccer is a different animal because of the diversity of the population.

I think there is a bandwagon element to any good team though. However I don't think you can just create a solid fan base (or add to one) by sending a good team up to Toronto once a year.

Probably not. I think ultimately we're saying the same thing. You can't look at the Bills in Toronto series and say "see? The NFL will never work up there".

I wonder if the Bills lack of success in Toronto had any impact on the Rogers/Bon Jovi bidding.

For an NFL team (which all of them basically print money) it seems Trump and the Toronto group came in a lot lower than expected

Trump just filed BK.........again. He had been trying for months to get his name off of the casino's because he knew it would negatively impact his bidding.

and

The Bon Jovi group was looking for bargain basement prices because he doesn't have the flow.

Who knows? Everyone goes into an investment like this with a target time to recover his investment. While it's almost impossible to lose money with an NFL franchise, the question becomes, does it make enough for me to recover what I paid in a certain amount of time (5 years, 10 years, etc...depends on what each investor considers acceptable).

There's also the issue of financing. If a bidder has to borrow money to make this work, the interest is going to compound, and that's less money in his pocket as well.

Finally, in the case of Bon Jovi's group, the reason he was involved in the first place is that the NFL rule is essentially that an individual needs to own a certain percentage, and the money contributed needs to be equal to that percentage (is it 35%?). If the price goes high enough where 35% exceeds what Bon Jovi was able to pay/borrow, his hands become tied.
