I think the punishment for diving should involve the nhl paying Twitter to make #PlayerXdives trend in the cities of the home and away teams of that night's game.

Honestly, if the nhl keeps drawing attention to diving it's only going to be confirming that it's a league of divers and therefore harder to take seriously. Hockey and soccer, two foreign sports with a sophisticated culture of diving.

It is getting to the point that when a player falls, everyone yells diving already, regardless of the player, team or the situation that actually lead to the fall.

Quite frankly, what a fan/reporter thinks is diving and what the NHL considers a dive are two vastly different things.

I dislike the rule regarding a player diving and making initial contact with a puck and still receiving a tripping penalty. Defensive players are already handcuffed by so many rules these days. As a former goaltender when I see a defenseman dive and make that play with his stick, I regard it was an excellent play and solid effort... somehow that now equates to a penalty. Get ready to watch wingers fly by on the outside with defensemen powerless to stop them. Please don't let the NHL become the NBA, that would ruin the game.

I think this one is more about safety than anything.

I'm not a fan of it either, but I can see why they've implemented it.

The diving one is hilarious, though. Those fines are ridiculous. Hopefully, the refs have been given a mandate to actually call dives this year, instead of just using them to offset a tripping/hooking penalty.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out this season. I am all for calling out divers in an official manner; nevertheless I will always contend that diving stems from inconsistent and poor refereeing.

Look at how the rules "change" from regular season to playoffs. All season a penalty is a penalty, period, some refs are more lenient or strict, but each individual calls more. Then playoffs come around and teams that are fast and skilled suffer to teams that hold, put late/early hits in and they go unnoticed by refs it seems. So players dive, make it obvious and the ref has to call it... I love listening to pregame commentary during playoffs about how a team were 25%+ PP unit during the regular season etc... All I can think is how insignificant that is when the number of power plays drop by a large margin in the playoffs.

Why is interference in the same category as penalties that can damage a player (elbowing, etc)? Doesn't seem logical to me that a player that interferes twice can be suspended.

I agree, Interference seems to be in the mix with a lot of other more severe infractions.

I guess when a players blasts a random guy coming up the ice w/o the puck the call is interference so in that light I could see it. It almost seems that interference could be broken into two categories, hit related and just infringing on the players ability to move.

One thing I wish they would address is the "turn your back to a check at the last minute to draw a checking from behind" BS. It seems to be a standard way that many players in the NHL receive a hit. It is (frank)ing stupid. Checking from behind is dangerous, but when the player purposely does this to draw a penalty or avoid the hit, IMO they deserve to get smashed face first into the boards.

just do away with the trapazoid rule, everybody knows it was a rule put in place for one guy, brodeur is close to retirement now. just get rid of it, goaltenders trying to handle the puck in most cases will improve offense all by itself, which is what the NHL is always looking for anyway.

You could have called Max Lapiere a diver. You used to be able to call Burrows a diver. You can shout from the hilltops that Kesler is/was and will be a diver... but the Sedins? You don't know anything about diving.
