Too many statistics back up what hitting a child can (and will) do to that child. Violent behavior, prison, drug use, alcoholism, etc.
- rmiethaner

The problem with those studies is that there are way too many variables. For instance, alcoholism also has a link to the parents (or parent) also being an alcoholic. As was mentioned before, there's a big difference between discipline and abuse (which alcoholism in the parent often attributes to). Perform those same studies from demographic to demographic (i.e. a "prototypical" middle class family of four versus a single-parent home in a poverty-stricken area) and you see much different results.

The storied Montreal Canadiens are taking a trick from recent Sabres history and not having a Captain, but going with all Alternates.

Personality wise, I'm the polar opposite of my sister, so that made things a bit easier. She barely passed classes in school and I was an honors student. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I wasn't a "trouble maker" or a "problem child" (not that you were implying that), and in fact I was a straight A student growing up. I still did things from time to time that deserved a whack. And I'm better off for having received that whack. My parents knew what was just enough to get the message across.

I think this is really the key. My parents did not beat my sister. It was usually a whack or two. Just to drive home the point that what she did was unacceptable.

What Peterson didn't isn't right, but at the same time, we shouldn't be crucifying him for it either. He made a mistake, and he realizes that at this point. Hopefully he doesn't ever get that aggressive with his child again.

I think that the fact that kids (ones old enough to know better) have a sense of eentitlement these days because the parents are so handcuffed by what the can and cannot do to discipline them.

Very well put . Although the child's injuries were a bit severe. None of us saw the actions of the child that warranted punishment . At least he was being a parent and not letting his child run wild . He showed him there are ramifications for your actions . Not enough of that these days .

I had a policeman for a father . And he was just in his punishment. There are a few times I felt I did not deserve it . But many more times I did . But my father also sat down with me after and explained why I was disciplined . I am not an alcoholic , felon or anything else bad because of it. Like to think I have succeeded in life because I was brought up right.

On a side note, it sounds like the new renovations at the stadium were a hit with the exception of the gates (40 minutes to an hour to get in ). Something didn't sound right about the concept of fewer but wider gates, and when I went to Tampa last year, they had a similar concept kept me and my group waiting for a while to get in. It sounds like they need far more ticket takers and security personnel to really make that work.

I'm pretty sure I felt I never deserved it when it happened....

Honestly, and ths is based on my experience at the preseason game, people need to just be better prepared to go through the gates. They get up to the security personnel and still have all sort of stuff in their pockets and take forever to clear them out. It's all about being proactive and not reactive. The first game of the season is always the worst to begin with.

I heard gate 2 was the nightmare gate and the others were fine. Problem was gate 1 was media only, so twice as many people were funneled to gate 2.

It seems like something that can be fixed without too much hassle.

NFL standards. Hitting your wife, ban. Beating your kid. meh you can play next week.

If Peterson steps one foot on that field next week, I fully expect a Multi million dollar lawsuit from Ray Rice.

I disagree. This was not a mistake. i dont know if you saw the pictures but there was no mistake about this. Peterson had a son murdered just recently Brutally beaten. You would think if anyone he would understand the concept of abuse and kids it would be him. Now evidence of child abuse on another son. So what has he learned?

That is a factor, but they should be able to work that out. Its a 45 minutes drive to stadium including traffic and parking(estimated based on where you live). Then you have to leave your car at 11:45 at the latest to walk in and hope to make kickoff because you have no idea what you are getting yourself into. So 45 drive and park + another hour and fifteen minute walk to get in. What other entertainment requires that much effort?

I was at the game. We went through Gate 6 which was essentially the first gate you saw walking up to the stadium from the paved lots. We were in line about 15 minutes. No issues at all.

Our issue was finding our seats. We had section 204. The new signs told us to go straight ahead for our section, but looking straight ahead we saw the Jim Kelly club seats. So we went down and to the right. When we got there the usher told us, "Oh yeah you gotta go back upstairs to get to 204." Thinking we screwed up and just didn't look hard enough, we walked back up the stairs to Gate 6. Walked around...nothing. We ended going BACK down the stairs, walking past the usher who gave us incorrect info, then up a flight of stairs to get to our section.

While we were going through this, I saw numerous couples/families having the same problem. Walking towards the Jim Kelly club and going, "Wait...no...that can't be right." and turning around.

I understand the signs can't be super specific, but I think they need to revisit them.

But none of us were there . My understanding was his child was very aggressive with another child . There is no standard playbook on discipline . He admitted to it right away before the mother of the child even saw the child . Maybe his act of aggression will prevent his child from harming other children . Nothing is as cut and dry as we would all like to believe . He owned his act as soon as he did it and justified it .

dude the kid was 4. did you not see the pics? Its F'd up! Plain and simple. If you are okay with what he did you are okay with child abuse.

I am okay with a kid getting punished . Maybe it was severe . I was never hit with a switch . I read in another article just now that when you are hit with a switch the marks do not show up right away . But I think there is a lot of vilification here that press also takes things to extremes. He was raised with being hit with a switch . First thing he knew to do I guess . He will know better in the future . But it is also being taken to the extreme here. To say I am okay with child abuse is perhaps the dumbest thing said in here today.
