That is where you need to buckle up and read with context.
Nobody is saying that the 29 year-old vet of over seas league is the next Giroux/Tavares.
Instead, we are suggesting he may be able to lock down a 4th line job without an AHL interview. - jak521
Actually we said it yesterday
PEB will replace Giroux as the first line C, freeing up the Flyers to trade G for Phaneuf, thereby bringing heightened interest to the Flyers/Phaneuf vs Blue Jackets/Hartnell games.

No, this is where you need to buckle up. I brought up Claude Giroux and John Taveras in comparison to one another. Claude Giroux has more accomplishments in the NHL then John Tavares. The original conversation was accomplished accomplishments between Michael Raffl and PEB. |

you could substitute Big Buf for Phaneuf in the above scenario for just about the same level of absurdity |

I agree, but it sounds like they are committed to starting the season with Rinaldo in the lineup. - BiggE
But why?
This is what Is baffling me. If he makes the team on merit fine, but there seems to be this inevitability attributed to him being in the starting lineup. |

PEB is a more accomplished player at this point in time than Raffl was when he came over a year ago. That's just a fact. Are people really debating this? Raffl may be a more accomplished player NOW than PEB is, but that just wasn't the case a year ago. |

when you bring up superstardom and championships, it kind of sounds like you are bringing up the fact that he might become a superstar. - SuperSchennBros
Nonsense, I think you are definitely the only one jumping to that conclusion.

Nice piece on Forsberg, my favorite non-Flyer of all-time (until he became a Flyer). When he retired with Colorado after those 2 games (where he was pretty awful, relative to his standards) I almost cried. I also almost cried when Sweden lost in 2010, knowing full well than it was the last hurrah for him as well as the bulk of that team's core. I've never liked a non-Flyer as much as I liked him, although Shea Weber's close (kinda funny it's those 2, huh?). He was basically Datsyuk before Datsyuk, but better. |

Scott Lachance, in 1991, was more highly-touted than Peter Forsberg.

Yep, I'm saying that Scott Lachance turned out to be a much better player than Forsberg could ever have dreamed of, because where you are ranked before you play in the NHL has a direct correlation to your chance of success at the NHL level.

But, Snider DID say that they're practicing patience. So, instead of full-out physical assaults against players, they'll lie in wait and pounce on players blindsides when the timing's just right. That's the Jesse Boulerice way! |

I'm just trying to figure out what accomplishments Giroux has in the NHL than Tavares doesn't, unless we want to chat about video game covers. |

If somehow he doesn't make the squad, do you see him taking the demotion to LHV or do they work out a loan agreement back to SkellefteƄ? - Tomahawk
I think he'd go to Lehigh Valley and try to get a callup. But if things don't work out this season, he'd go back to Europe next season. |

Not that I regret the Lindros trade but imagine 2 changes.....the Flyers don't fire Clarke and Clarke takes the kid he liked best according to the 90 draft preview.....Jaromir Jagr and the arbitrator rules in favor of the Rangers and the Flyers keep Forsberg, Hexy and Simon (plus the rest of course). think about they could have had Renberg, LeClair, Brindy, Forsberg and Jagr as the core forwards starting the 94-95 season. - nastyflyergirl
That's hilarious isn't it? hind sight is truly 20/20. They would also still have had Hextall in net in from 92-94 and I think it would have worked better than with I think it was Silly Salo and Dom Roussel. |

Bill, what player do you think has to win a job for Rinaldo to made #13?
If all of Bellamare, Akeson, Raffle, and Laughton earn spots, will Rinaldo be the odd guy out or what? My guess is that Akeson is the guy where this will come in to play, but they serve different roles.
I only ask because you seem pretty convinced that Rinaldo is on this team no matter what. I'm just curious as to what your insight on the Flyers line of thinking is.
I personally would much rather have a 4th line of PEB Laughton Raffl, that say Rinaldo PEB Raffl..... |

I'd rather actually see PEB and Laughton (to a lesser extent) play before penciling them in. |

If Akeson plays well enough, he could find himself in the top 9. Most of it depends what they do with Laughton: let him be the 4th line center or some AHL seasoning?

The fact that they're trying PEB as a 4C makes me think Laughton's destined for the AHL, to start, barring injury. |

I understand that. I'm just more interested to figure out why Rinaldo is a "lock".
