I think Morin has the highest potential, but Sanheim's confidence, calm demeanor and skating skills will give him a smooth ride...plus, his ceiling is pretty high on it's own. Ghost also has a shot to be a special player - Jsaquella

If they can get 3 or 4 regular NHL top six defensemen out of this group, it would be fantastic. |

He had a good Hlinka Tourney performance, from what I read. Decent size, too, with potential to grow and get bigger. Righty shot, as well, isn't he? |

Yup and coached by Jody Hull
Need to add some offense but the defense and physical tools are there in his game. |

Yeah, double checked him on eliteprospects.com...numbers don't impress, but looking at the other stuff there's potential. |

He was given a fair amount of responsibility with the Petes as a 16 yr old so add that with trying to get his feet under him on a team that took a while to play better he didn't have many chances.

So outside of the Flyers what are you guys most excited to see in the NHL this season?
For me it comes down to two coaches. I think Lavi is going to work some real magic with the Preds. Those fans aren't going to know what hit them when they live and die playing 6-5 games.
And then it's Trotz goes to Washington. I just don't see how Ovi is going to work under him. Trotz has said he wants to move Ovi back to LW so at least there's that. I can already see the two blowing up on each other in the middle of games though. |

The continued emergence of Nate MacKinnon, Dallas playing 6-5 games two or three times a week, St Louis trying to be the 2010 Flyers... |

I'm interested in how Nashville looks this season. Weber in my opinion is the best defenseman in the league, so you know what he brings. Rekka Rinne when healthy to me is one of the best goaltenders in the league. If Riberio can keep himself in check, Neal and himself could be a surprising duo. Laviolette's system in Nashville is pretty much a given.
However, I'm interested in seeing what Dany Heatley can do in Anaheim. A declining Heatley is still easily a huge upgrade over Dustin Penner. Getzlaf and Perry are still one of the more dominant pairs in the league. With the right guys, why can't Heatley at least pot 20? |

I think Heatley is pretty well shot. With all the other guys they have I honestly don't see him getting a ton of chances like he did the past few years in Minne. I am very curious to see the Ducks though. They are hard enough to play against as it is and they went out and added Kesler. I'm glad we only play them twice. |

Just making a case for Heatley, Kesler replaces Koivu and Healthy replaces Selanne, so there is an opportunity with the Ducks. Also adding the fact that the Ducks are a much better team then the Wild. |

Kesler hasn't had a 50 point season in 3 years, and honestly hasn't played well overall. Maybe it was partly being unhappy in Vancouver, but he hasn't looked like the same player he was.
Maybe Heatley has a chip on his shoulder, coming from the $7mm a year deal, to having to play for comparative peanuts. |

Well Kesler only played 17 games in 12/13, and put up 13 points. Also he scored 25 goals last season, and scored 22G and 27A in 11/12. If Kesler can match those numbers along with his quality two way play, he's a solid 2nd line center in this League and will help Anaheim.

I compare Kesler's role to Koivu simply because they're both known as very good two way centers. I've always felt Kesler as a goal scorer and point producer as a whole made him slightly overrated. I don't think Kesler will ever be a 40 goal scorer again. |

Besides the ones you mentioned, I'm looking forward to the last ride of the old guard in San Jose, the inevitable collapse of the Maple Leafs, and Tampa Bay with all its new pieces. |

Kesler hasn't played very well overall the last couple/few seasons. It's not just a decline in production, the two way game hasn't been as good. He's almost 30 now, and he's got some miles on him and a few injuries.
He should be fine for a couple more seasons, but it's not as if he's a top second line center anymore. He won't be a 1-2 punch with Getzlaff like Boston has in Krejci & Bergeron, or Dallas in Seguin & Spezza. |
