In good news, the NFL is shrinking its "pink" presence in the month of October. That was cute the first time they did it but it got real old. |

I don't think any of us are sure how that will work out. There are many questions surrounding Foligno's staying ability as it is. - Buffalo-Sabres
Small sample size, but some of Foligno's best two way work came when he played centre for a stretch in 2013 (i think).
I think if the offensive pressure is off (and it should be if he's playing 3rd or 4th line) he can really excel in that role but I'm basing this off limited viewing. |

They need to get him back to doing what made him so good his first year. Drive the net, use his size. Let it bounce in off of him when he's screening the goalie. None of those goals were of the highly skilled variety. He scored them by creating havoc in front of the net. He needs to be a physical presence whenever he's out there.
I realize that was difficult for him last year being that he played a considerable amount of time with a shoulder injury, but that's been corrected now. |

Since everyone is already aware of breast cancer and cancer, why doesn't the NFL just take all the money they use on buying od the pink equipment, paint, and so on, and donate that to cancer research. ...
I guess that would make too much sense. |

He took the league by storm during his 1st real stint, which is great but it also sets the bar really high and his last name didn't help. He's struggled to find balance in his game in terms of physicality and production (which many young power forwards go through).
I'm of the belief that with the pressure off the team and expectations (statistically speaking) tempered I think he can work on what needs to be fixed so that he can turn into a solid top 9 forward who can contribute at both ends of the ice. |

Because breast cancer awareness month is a scam, just like everything else in the NFL. IIRC, I read somewhere that it is somewhere around $.02 goes towards breast cancer awareness of any "Pink" purchase you make. The rest of it to the NFL. |

You could take that paragraph and describe a few of the younger Buffalo Sabres. A stable environment with a clear direction will allow some guys to find their place |

The new HBSL format is horrible. Don't understand why they felt the need to change it. |

Exactly this. Its big business. And due the the subject matter, money practically WALKS in to the bank account of anyone producing goods to "raise cancer awareness."

Yeah they said the numbers were embarrassingly low. Plus it's just worn out. We get it, pink shoe laces and pink wrist bands. |

I'm just saying, is "awareness" really something that makes sense in that context? How about raising money to help women (and sometimes men) receive treatment who might not be able to afford it without ruining their family's finances. |

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was first originated to raise awareness. It turned into raising awareness and a large sum of money as well. Sometimes they go hand in hand.
The whole PINK the RINK game fad was actually started at SUNY Fredonia in the mid 90's because of a players mother who had breast cancer. It was so big ESPN actually covered a game and did a story (back when they were actually reporting on sports).
Any money raised for any sort of charity is better than nothing in my eyes. |

They have donated over a million dollars each season from it. Could they donate more? Of course but a million dollars is a million dollars.
If you look at percentages sure it looks low but at the end of the day its still a 1 and 6 zeros after it. |

And since the NFL is a NON for profit organization (yes you read that correctly) I think the tax write off is even more if I am not mistaken. But I'm not a CPA.
I find it hilarious that the NFL is a non for profit organization (the teams themselves are not though). |

I do think it matters what the money goes to. You look at the administrative overhead for, say, Susan b komen... I'd rather more cash went right to people who need it.
But yeah, donating = good overall. |

It's a two way street in my eyes. Yes you want more money going to the actual cause but say you had person X running the show they might not be able to bring in the donations that person Y brings in and doesn't use the funds to their best ability. So is person Y worth the higher salary? In my eyes yes.
Administrative overhead is going to happen no matter what the organization is. Its better to pay the best people more than average people less if they do the job better overall. I bet the financials would say the same thing. |
