Bill, based on the roster and contract level signings- who do you expect to be assigned to the Reading Royals. Its a given that Oulette and Knapp are designated to be there. Perhaps Fyten as well. They have a few openings to be filled primarily 2-3 on D.
The game in the ECHL is to sign players to ECHL contracts or have them assigned and make sure they get 5 games in for playoff eligibility. Several of these players are fairly certain to have AHL offers aside from the in system players under Flyers organization contract. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Timonen, Training Camp Opens, Quick Hits - bmeltzer
Hate it for Kimmo. He has clearly lost a step and this was probably a swan song year anyway. Would have liked to see him around to mentor Ghost or Sanheim. And our current top 6 clearly strikes no fear in anyone's heart. Might be a tough couple of years on the back end until some of these youngsters develop and step up. And even once they make the big club, they will still need more development. We clearly have a number of promising prospects, more depth than I can ever remember on the blue line at any one time. But it's " prospective depth". Development is key. Hexy is doing the right thing by not rushing them. But we have had a history of impatience. And it starts with the top. Ed is never satisfied with 2nd prize. I appreciate that about him. Always wants a cup. So, we'll see if he can wait this out. He isn't getting any younger. If we are 5 years from these guys being great, will we have missed the prime of our current core of young forwards? Time will only tell. |

Figuring that the Phantoms starting defense will consist of Manning, Alt, Gostisbehere, Hägg, Pettersson and Lauridsen, all of the other defensemen (Delisle, Lamarche, Flemming) are on the bubble for an assigned to Reading.
Fyten is on the bubble, yes. So are Johnston and Mathers. If he has a poor camp, Noebels could also find himself in Reading.
Also, it is NOT a 100 percent slam dunk that Stolarz starts in Allentown this season. He has the inside track but a job is not guaranteed.

Still looks like a solid group of defense for the Phantoms |

My favourite Flyer for years, if it is indeed the last time we see him on the ice, this is one guy they should actually keep in the organization in one aspect.
His ability to break up 2 on 1's, always a pleasure to watch.

Kimmo gave us a lot of good years and really has been our number 1 and captainsince he's been here. His ability to play through pain has to rank up there with the best this club has seen and there's been some tough players through the years. The end of an era and that's what's hardest.
This sucks for Kimmo but might be a blessing in disguise for the club. He hasn't been the same player for a couple years now and has looked rather slow. Opening up a roster spot gives the brass a chance to better evaluate what they have in stock. This d-corp doesn't look too fearsome but they will be more mobile which is something they have not been in like... Forever |

Sucks for Kimmo, but the press conference basically said what I had assumed. Hopefully, he stays healthy for his family and has no other issues. - Jsaquella
Yea I feel like they might downplaying how bad it is. Blood clots are always bad but in the lungs that just sounds scary. |

Who has a better chance of unseating Stolarz, Oullete or Knapp? |

Yeah, they cant mess around with that. He could be an easy stroke candidate if the clot moved up in to his neck.
I want him to sail off in to the sunset back to the land of Odin. Live a full life on Valhalla and raise little Vikings.

Do you think the lingering of him maybe coming back will be a distraction? Or is his presence positive no matter what? |

Kimmo is easily one of the best D-men this organization has had. My favorites are as follows:
Desjardins, Timonen, Pronger (I know he was'nt here long but I have always been a huge fan of his) |

Meh, who cares, they are all in the same general area. Ukko will welcome him with open arms.

There is a reason the Viking were never able to conquer Finland....

Possible. He's had them 3 times now, so I would definitely have worries about his long term health |

Not to the degree of Primeau & Pronger (and especially Forsberg) became distractions. There's no way he's playing before January and it's not a concussion, so there's no symptom watch. If he's on the blood thinners, he's not playing. It's cut and dried. That will help stop speculation of will he play.

Pretty much. And the signing of Del Zotto says that the Flyers are approaching it as if he's not coming back. Not shutting the door, but moving ahead.

I really hope Del Zotto regains form and Schenn takes another step. In that case I think we'll be fine. |

Such a shame to see a proud warrior like Timonen not be able to go out on his own terms. While an old guy in hockey terms, a young man in life. I hope he is able to live a healthy life, and enjoy his family.
Would love to see the Flyers bring him back in some sort of capacity, as a coach/scout, probably not likely being he owns a team in Finland. |

I think he will get some spot in the organization. I am not sure if he is staying in US or going back to Finland but I can see him being a scout or player development person. As much as the Flyers get ridicule for their loyalty sometimes I think when it comes to after playing careers they do a great job of taking care of their own. |
