One thing I've just noticed, and maybe this tells us something about Hextall's faith in the current roster or maybe it doesn't, but we didn't bring in one vet on a tryout. Hextall really does seem intent on letting every draft pick get their fair chance. |

I think AMac and Coburn will be a good top defensive pairing at 5 on 5. I will definitely prefer Streit over AMac on the top PP though. - hereticpride
There's no doubt that Streit will be on the top pp unit.

I like that. Why let a guy come in and audition for 29 other teams while taking time away from one of your own kids trying to make the team? |

Why do you think mdz will rebound? Motivated by a new contract? I just worry that there has to have been a reason that he was not re signed. - Hextall271
When I read about what happened to him, I can totally empathize with losing confidence in something you KNOW you do well. His whole world was a whirlwind last season. Scapegoated, benched, traded with baggage, no chance to get rid of baggage in new town. That weighs you down.
Fresh start for a team that wants him......Its not like he forgot how to play hockey.
Redemption, and the motivation to shove it up the jacksie of those who doubted you can be powerful motivators. |

Dead last in Toronto. They're in first place for fan satisfaction in 29 other cities in North America. That I'm sure of.

I can see that. We really need him to find his game so I pray you're right. |

I like it too. This is part of the philosophy Hextall has preached since he became GM. Even if we have growing pains, let the young guys get the experience. |

So it looks like one of the games on Monday will be televised. Are the rosters for each game that night predetermined or will Berube decide that this weekend? |

3/5 of his career seasons were considered "good" ones... people forget that this isn't a guy like Mase who was one and out up to now, or somebody like Fat Schenn who's never come even close to meeting expectations. He's been a really good dman for most of his career, under a very demanding coach, on a very structured team.
The fact he couldn't find work even in a market where mad money was being thrown at dudes like Stoner, Engelland and Orpik is probably less of a reflection on his ability to bounce back, and more an indictment of NHL GM's and their collective myopia. |

The concern I have with Giroux's injury is that if it's a groin, those can be tricky. Hope it doesn't turn into something that nags him all year long.
If one is into omens or bad signs, it doesn't get much worse than an injury to the one guy who is totally irreplaceable in the organization. - Jsaquella
Give him a golf club, the injury would have taken less time. |

I just hope that some of these guys who really pushed themselves on the conditioning front over the summer haven't become more injury prone as a result in the early going. - Tomahawk
So you think the players coming into camp in top condition and in very good shape is going to cause more injuries?

I'm interested in seeing exactly how he'll be used. Yes I understand he's not great defensively. Yes I understand that he'll likely be used in mostly offensive situation but John Tortorella did like Del Zotto. He did somewhat use him in some defensive situations like the PK. I'm not suggesting he'll get that kind of ice time but having Del Zotto and Streit on one team is interesting. |

The bold scares me a lot. I just don't see the performance value.
