I'd imagine Ghost and Morin are in Philly just because.

Everyone keeps assuming he'll get called up at some point. Aside from injuries, unless he flat-out dominates the AHL, he'd still be called up to the 4C role. Why not give him a shot to win it with the big club instead of skating with guys bound for juniors and the AHL?

I think there's two ways to look at what's going on there. Either the team has pretty much already decided that unless he totally blows their doors off with his play, he's starting with the Phantoms. Or as funmaster said, they are going to be true to their word, and really make the player earn it. And they want to see if the player is going to take the attitude of "I'll show you I don't belong on the B team!"

I hear you, but I still prefer Laughton in the minors. Long term, I don't really see G-Couts-Laughton down the middle. I really don't. I don't think there are enough goals in that lineup. Schenn doesn't see to be dynamic enough as a 2nd line center. Again, not gonna scare anyone. I think that is why they brought in Vinnie - for a 1-2 punch with G. It just didn't work out. I'm betting they pick up another center in FA a year or two from now to be that true #2.

Honestly, I'd develop Laughton with the goal of trading him for a young winger. I would have said defenseman a year ago, but at this point I'm thinking 2-3 years out and by then you have at least 3 of the 4 kids on the roster.

I think it remains to be seen if there is enough goals there. Couturier still has a lot of room for growth offensively. Also might wait just a little to see what Laughton will develop into. What I see potentially long term is a very strong lineup down the middle, with a dynamic first line center in Giroux. A strong 2 way 2nd line center in Couturier. And a solid checking line center in Laughton that can also chip in some offense. That's how you build teams. Goalie, defense, and strong up the middle at the center ice position. Wing is the least important position on the ice.
