Travis Sanheim I believe has the best chance at possibly being a top pair guy with a balanced game. I'm actually concerned thatc Morin might be over hyped.
- SuperSchennBros

I think you're right. It seems like most of our other prospects excel at one aspect but have some serious ground to make up in others. Sanheim and Hagg are probably the most well-rounded players who are solid all-around players. Sanheim has a bit more offensive pop than Hagg (from what I've read), so my money would be on him.

I didn't say their wasn't a chance. I think it's possible but not as likely as them being 2-3 dmen. I'm not saying Morin or Sanheim developing into a #1 dman has a low probability either, just that it's not the MOST probable outcome.
- NickTheKid87

I'm trying to get you to change focus away from what's most likely, to looking at the players themselves.

I'm not looking for what is the most probable outcome. If you think Morin will or won't be a #1, give an opinion on why based on the player, and his skill set and strengths and weakness.
Do you think the Flyers or any team drafts based on probabilities, or by looking at and scouting the player as an individual?

Yes, absolutely. I think they look at the player's ceiling and the probability the player will reach his potential, much the same way that Hockey's Future grades prospects. They also consider factors like the probability that the player will sign a contract, the probability they will come over to the NHL (for example, for Russian players) and a number of other factors.

I think that, up until recently, the Flyers have drafted players with a lower ceiling but perhaps with a greater potential to reach the NHL in the mid and lower rounds.

Saying why he won't be a number one is the same as explaining why he will be. He has an AHL caliber skill set at present. We're arguing potential which is an inexact science. That's is why I'm citing probability. How far will his skill set develop? Who knows?

Well I wouldn't say that they do it much the same way that Hockey Futures does it. They do it from a distance. An NHL team actually extensively scouts a player.

Probability isn't an inexact science?

It's not so much about saying he will or won't be a #1. It's about how that opinion is formed.

I don't think the Flyers would have drafted him with the 11th pick if he had a AHL skill set.

I can't help but wonder how I'd explain myself to my boss if I separated a shoulder slinging a celebratory fist pump after sending a good, taut email.
