I hope you're not comparing Bobby Ryan to Mark Recchi. Because he's not half the player Rechi was.
What's a reasonable deal for Ryan? - MJL
Well I'm definitely not comparing Nickolback to Mark Recchi.
I could live with a 5.5 or 6 million cap hit but it's really not for me to decide. This is his contract season, so a lot of this money depends on this year. |

Really looking forward to seeing Ghost play in person. Taking my little girl down tonight. Was able to trade with a buddy of mine who has aisle seats, as I don't see her making it through the whole game. - jmatchett383
Load her up with sugar. She'll last the entire night |

I also don't want her attempting to vault down 14 rows of seats. |

Just pulling this out but I see stuff like this a lot. Comparing other players' age to Read's. The thing is, Read has played three seasons in the NHL (196 games). Ryan has played 7 seasons (378 games). That's almost twice as many games played as Matt Read which means twice as much of an NHL beating. Matt Read might be 28 years old but he hasn't been worn down by NHL caliber competition as long as guys that came up when they were 18 or 19. So sometimes age isn't necessarily a fair comparison. - NickTheKid87
Age is a fair comparison because Ryan fits in the same age range of the core group. I was also excited to pick up Mason, Luke Schenn and Michael Del Zotto because of the age range of the group that compliments what we already have. |

Saw a drunk dude tumble down a good 3 rows of seats at the draft. Lost his shoe and everything. It was pretty comical, once I realized he wasn't dead/hurt. |

I am looking forward to seeing AMac play this year...not many people positive on him, but I think he will be one of the biggest surprises this year...there were some flashes last year as he moved the puck well, and his D game was sound overall...I think with his first full year under Chief's system he is going to take a big step forward this year...he is not a #1 D-Man right now, but I think he will play a much better game than most people expect this year, and if MDZ surprises as well, I think this year won't be as bad as most people predict for the blue liners... |

Age is just a number without context. Read's age is less relevant than others given his unorthodox journey to the NHL. |

I'd put it closer to 3-4 years, but I'm optimistic today. - aflyerpower8
No players are ever good until they're 5-6 years in. If only that Crosby guy could have been good his first 3-4 years in the league, he could have been one of the greats. Shame he wasn't any good until he was 23/24. |

Seem to remember Streit and Morin being a pairing last year. Sanheim and Streit are similar style defensemen, but they probably like putting the most veteran player on the team with the recent draftee. |

How do you guys see the top 9 shaping out this year?
Will Voracek play the left side or stay on the right now that Hartnell is gone and Umberger may not be a top 6 winger anymore?
Would there be a fit for Eberle on the team? |

There's a fit for every NHL team for Eberle. If the Oilers will give him to the Flyers for free and pick up his contract, or trade him for Lecavalier, I'm sure the Flyers could use him. |

It puts the Flyers basically in rebuilding mode. How long until they're actually ready to lead a defense, and gained the experience and gone through the inevitable growing pains, as young NHL defenseman? 5-6 years from now? - MJL
The Flyers have MacDonald for six more years, Streit for three more years, and Coburn for at least two more years. Those are good, veteran defensemen. How are the Flyers in rebuilding mode if Morin, Ghost, Hagg and Sanheim start filling in the spots around them over the next few seasons? |

At a guess:
B. Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Umberger-Lecavalier-Raffl/Akeson
Rinaldo-PE Bellemare-Akeson/Raffl
There's not much need for Eberle, really, but he can be fit in. |

I really dont see the issue here. Ryan can play both sides and by his actions on rejecting a significant contract offer has made it clear he wishes to explore ufa. I also believe he wants to come to philly. I think a contrat of an average 6 mil cap hit is fine and he would be turning down more money as well...a lot more prolly. We have the cap space to do so as constructed now going into next offseason. It wouldnt hurt to buyout/trade one of umberger or vinny or grossman and add a young d to help give us even more cap space going into the offseason two seasons from now with expiring contracts to scheen and coots. I say sign bobby R |
