Last night during the Caps game, I thought the stand outs were: Aube-Kubel, Sanheim, and Jones. I really hope that Jones makes the fourth line this year. He didn't take any stupid penalties, and played gritty for 60 minutes. The other two will make great additions to the team once they get some AHL seasoning.
One thing that puzzled me is how Rosehill can be the fastest guy on the team. Makes me wonder if Vcheck, and others are focusing on conditioning. I would never expect an enforcer to have that kind of speed, or our forwards lacking such speed.
Anyway, I wanted the above guys to get their kudos for the hard work last night.
Thanks. |

Speed and conditioning are really not the same thing.. at all.
Voracek has very good speed and conditioning. Just because Rosehill is a fighter doesnt mean he cant be a fast skater.
As for the noticeables, Sanheim, Gordon, Jones, Straka, all played pretty well. AK had a so-so game, but it is much bigger than I thought he was. |

If B Jones keeps playing like that, he'll probably make the team. At the expense of whom, I couldn't say right now... but Akeson and Raffl certainly look safe.
As for the Rosehill thing... really wouldn't put too much stock in that. Rosehill isn't a bad skater, but an informal "competition" in the first couple of days of preseason, when most guys are just easing in, doesn't exactly make for irrefutable science. |

1)It was a short, straight line skate. Anything longer distance or with lots of cornering, the result would probably have been
different. Also there was no puck involved.
2) Rosehill gets a lot of extra skating practice.
3) It's not all that unusual. Antoski (or Haller) was the fastest skater among mid-90s Flyers in similar competitions. |

Let me preface this as I know it was first pre-season game.
1) Puck support seemed a lot better then last year. Maybe guys trying to prove something but seemed like forwards were getting back and getting lower in d zone.
2) Sanheim looks good. Was poised and can really skate. I can see how he gets the Ryan McDonough comparissons. He moves on the ice just like he does with anticipation and making plays.
3) The Phantoms should b a solid team which will be a good enviroment for the prospects.
4) Ghostisbeire is who he is. He is a risk taker and incredible talent. He will make his plays but also make some errors. I think the Flyers are putting together a nice mix of talents with Hagg, Sanheim, Ghost, Morin, Alt. All kind of have there pros and cons but together could be a nice mix |

I only saw the Caps game. All 3 of the young defenseman showed potential to become full time NHL players. Haag is just steady, probably a year or two away. Ghostibehere obviously skates well and shoots the puck well. Probably at least a full AHL season, if not two AHL seasons away. And Sanheim, who I thought stood out the most, is probably about 4 seasons away. Just guesses. |
