The Flyers employ 4 people in their front office and coaching staff that used to play goalie (Hextall, Reese, Little, and Nitty). You have to think they just didn't like the cut of his jib or something. Plus, if you wanted to bring Stolarz along, where does Heeter fit? He was a college goaltender and not a young kid. |

I only saw the Caps game. All 3 of the young defenseman showed potential to become full time NHL players. Haag is just steady, probably a year or two away. Ghostibehere obviously skates well and shoots the puck well. Probably at least a full AHL season, if not two AHL seasons away. And Sanheim, who I thought stood out the most, is probably about 4 seasons away. Just guesses. - MJL
Haag is one of those set them and forgt them type. Just plays solid and does his thing. I think Sanheim could be closer depnding how he fills out. His skating is obvious when he is on the ice. Leirer was fast. His speed the one time forced a turnover but he fell when getting in the zone. |

I think it just came down to potential and skill set. Stolarzwas a second round pick and has a higher upside. Heeter was an undrafted FA. They wanted to get Stolarz time and have a vet like Zepp help him out. Heeter did his thing for the phantoms but they want their picks playing in LHV. Hextall has stated that before. I just see heeter as a career AHL goalie |

2016 is when most of these kids will probably have their best shot at making the club (w/ Coburn, Schenn and Grossmann all going UFA)... but I could see Hagg, Ghost and Sanheim making it as early as 2015. Morin seems further off. |

I agree.
However, with that FA group you mentioned.....if Coburn still has his wheels, I could see the Flyers retaining him if they can afford him. |

Sanheim didn't play like he was 18. - MJL
I agree. I found a ticket online for 5.50 so I scooped it up and went so I could see some of the kids play in a quasi NHL game.

Laughton wasn't bad, but he really did nothing to stand out, either.
The puck movement by Akeson, MDZ and Couturier on the PP was fantastic for much of the night. They looked really good. - Jsaquella
I was at the Home game so didnt see the game in London last night but I could have sworn I saw tweets from Bill or someone saying Laughton was all over the ice last night (in a positive way). no? |

I could see Schenn and Coburn being retianed as Vets to help with the kids as they are filtered in. Depending how del zotto plays this year he could find his way onto this team. Grossmann could be a trade chip and so could Streit if he waves his NTC.
Coburn - Sanheim
Schenn - Del Zotto
Alt - Ghostisbere |

I re-watched the Caps game after the Leafs game, and honestly Lecavalier was fine on the PP, but he didn't seem to play well at ES. There were a couple times that he and Umberger got bottled up in the zone and that is a bit worrisome.
Sanheim looked good and so did two of the Phantoms signings, Jones and Gordon. I thought Streit looked solid overall. Ghost & Hagg had the kind of ups and downs one should expect. - Jsaquella
as far as the battle for a potential open 4th line/13th skater spot I was happy with Gordon and jones. Didn't think Leier, cubes, etc stood out in eithe a positive or negative way. |

If he plays well in the next couple of years as their de facto #1, I'm not sure he'd be affordable anymore. If he doesn't play well... he's out the door anyway. |

On preseason merit, where Jody Hull was once king, I agree that Gordon and Jones looked good. However, I think they're both AHL-bound.
Also, one of them (forget which) did something VERY stupid. In the second, the Flyers had an odd-man rush going up the ice. One of them decided that it was a perfect time to drop the gloves, effectively killing the offensive rush. You cannot have guys doing selfish things like that in the regular season. |
