Wow.
I just don't feel that hockey needs to be marketed as a spectacle, and the fans don't need to be pandered to. - Tomahawk

OB and I use it. He talked me into it and off of Center Ice. They have home and away feeds for all NHL games in HD. I watch it on my Roku and my iphone. I use the web interface occasionally and I needed it to watch WHL games last season as they didn't stream on the Roku. The AHL games are mostly the in house feed married with the radio call. All games are archived.
I had Center Ice for years and although I occasionally run into issues with Hockeystreams it's usually over things that I wouldn't get on Center Ice. The shear volume of options far out distances any quirks I've run into. - mayorofangrytown
Does HS have an iOS app? Searched for it last night, no dice. |

Given that they generally split goaltending doodies for preseason games, and it was played in London, I'm a little surprised they didn't give Mason any time.
It was also kind of entertaining seeing the Leaf goalie with Flyers pads for the second half of the game. - prock
Stolarz was the goalie in London this past year and they expect him to play at the AHL level this year, so I'm not surprised they let Stolarz have that game.
They play Toronto tonight at the ACC, so Mason will probably start tonight and go 2 periods. |

I've been using dthe android hockeycast app (to stream the game to a chromecast) recently and it's pretty excellent. |

"going over to the other side"? Anyways, I don't disagree this would've been a fine solution, I just don't think the current solution is sexist, or at the very least nowhere near as sexist as what we had previously.
(and before somebody gets upset and calls me a SJW, no I'm not saying having ice girls was the most sexist, terrible thing ever) - BulliesPhan87
I'm not really saying sexist, more like they were SO AFRAID of having girls on the crew that they said, "Screw it, we're only gonna use guys." To basically make it a non-factor.
I couldn't care less who does the ice scraping, just seems odd that it's a 100% male contingent. |

Not sure what the issue girl issue is. Bunch of minority politically correct morons. - flyer_nutter
The issue was with the hours, pay and treatment of the women doing the job. The Flyers didn't want any part of the crap that was coming so they got out in front of it. The presentation from the Delta Dental Ice Girls to what they have been running out there the last few years was spiraling down the drain.
To me it was embarrassing. You know what I need in my life? A picture with 10 girls young enough to be my daughters paid to be dressed in something just north of a bikini. I guess I'll just never understand that thinking. Why would you be grinning over that picture like it was some accomplishment? |

Wouldn't it be possible for them to do a lawsuit now? Assuming all of the female workers got removed from the job?
Not sure how all this works in the US. |

It wasn't a paid job, to the best of my knowledge.
Also, I believe Pennsylvania is an "at will" state, meaning they can fire you "at will" even if you've done nothing wrong. |

I think dismantling the ice girl concept was to head off a future incident/lawsuit.
I think it's funny people booed last night (what did everyone expect?), but ultimately, people will stop caring about it by Christmas. Especially if the team is any good.
The one negative thing that COULD come of this.....local gentleman's establishments having their girls outside the arena handing out advertisements for their place to capitalize on this publicity (these places HAVE done this in the past). I take my 8 YO son to games......he doesn't need to see that. |

They should really switch it up and allow kids (along with adults) to come out and do it. It would probably be a thrill for them. |

I've read elsewhere that some minor league teams have local hockey youth groups scrape the ice.
Much better idea, IMO. |

I maintain Steve Downie could have cleared 3 6-inch steps.
Edit: Stop it at the 11 second mark. His entire body is about even with the top of the boards. - jmatchett383
The worst part of that replay, for me, is that when the scrum ensues, dudes are just falling on top of and all over a completely out-cold Dean McAmmond. Like, no one thought to just nudge him out of the way a little bit. What if someone was pushed down onto his neck or something? Could have been even worse for him. Scary to think about. |
