Oh, for sure. I'd just rather see them keep and play guys like Alderson, Alt and Cousins. - Jsaquella
Laughts, Moron, Leier and Ghost are still up, at least. |

It's pretty unrealistic for any of the defensemen to make it, right -- that is, unless Grossmann can't go and you decide to run one of them out there for 9 or fewer?

I get what MJL is saying because some other team is going to have their lunatics, dressed, but man, I wish we could've gotten more of a look at Alderson or maybe Straka, even if they were always going to be sent down.
Watching Zach Stortini collect 2-5-10 is already tiresome as (frank) - AllInForFlyers
I mean they aren't keeping Stortini because they want to see him more and get a longer look, and he's in the running to make the team. |

If one of them grabs the bull by the horns, I could see Schultz on waivers post haste and one of the top-6 possibly eating popcorn for at least 9-games (if it's Morin).
But yeah, realistically speaking, I think the only roster drama left is if Blair Jones can beat somebody out for a F spot (Rosehill, Pedobear). I don't even think Laughton has a shot (right out of camp), just based on the cap jujitsu required to accommodate his hit. |

Alt is really the only one with a realistic chance to make it in my eyes. And that is as a 7th/8th D man. If Grossmann cant go they'll likely go Schultz/Lauridson/Alt in that order. If it's a long term thing with Grossmann I think they'll look to add a vet. |

The soonest the guys who have to pass through waivers can be sent through is 12-days before day 1 of the season. - Tomahawk
Good point. That's probably why.

Nobody's likely to claim him. I'd still rather see guys like Alderson, Alt and Cousins get longer looks. They know what Stortini can do, and it's pretty much limited to taking punches.
Keep a kid like Alderson, plug him onto the 4th line for a game where you have a mostly full roster and see how he does. - Jsaquella
I think part of it is the Phantoms have to start practicing as a team and getting ready for their season.

Think on the 28th (is that 12-days before Oct 8?), you'll see Stortini, Zepp, Gordon, Lauridsen, the lot of 'em getting sent down at once. - Tomahawk
26th I believe.

Watching the analysts talk about last night's Leafs win, and saying how it was an easy shutout and that most nights last year the Leafs were outshot etc... implying that maybe last night is an indication the team has improved blah blah..
Is it just me or did we not ice a real solid roster last night? I don't think it excuses the loss, but we had what 8 regulars in the lineup? I can't see how you can get a real feel for your team (Leafs or Flyers) when there are so many minor league or junior players in the lineup.. |

Ahhh let em have their hope. Personally I am so unmoved by last night game. I view it as watching a bunch of major league pitchers getting knocked around in the preseason because they are working on a new pitch or trying to iron out their mechanics.
Now if they look like that on October 8th, get the rescue boats ready....

The Flyers dressed just over the bare minimum number of vets last night, with those being Couturier, Read, Simmonds, Rinaldo, Rosehill, Powe, Stortini, Schenn, Del Zotto, Mason & Schultz
Of those 11, one isn't even signed to a NHL deal (Powe), another is not expected to make the roster at all (Speedbag Stortini), one is the 13th forward and the other is the presumable 7th defenseman. That leaves 7 guys expected to play any sort of regular role for the Flyers this season vs. Twelve guys dressed by the Leafs, who are all expected to play fairly significant roles
It would be similar to Flyers fans celebrating the win over the Caps.
At this point of the pre-season, you look at who is playing well individually and start trying to get an idea of who is in good shape and who is still working off the rust. |

If Del Zotto plays like he did last night he will be in the press box or waived by xmas. On Couter he seems too much like pass first and has to convince himself that he can score. Looking forward to see the |Giroux/Schenn/Voracek combo once G comes back. Hopefully not another slow start for G. - flyerdude17
The whole F-ing team is a disaster without G. There's really not much need to break it down further than that |

The Flyers dressed their 2nd line, 3rd D pair, their 12th & 13th forwards and 7th defenseman last night. If anyone thinks that's indicative of how they will look, that person is quite frankly a (frank)ing idiot. |

All about what role a player is placed in. I thought Akeson, like everyone else had an average game at best. But in that lineup last night, he was one of the more talented offensive players on the team. Akeson having to be the catalyst offensively in the NHL isn't going to work out too well most likely. But if Akeson is a supporting offensive player that is asked to provide some secondary offense, and play on the 2nd unit PP. While also hopefully playing an adequate all around game. Playing in a game where the Flyers ice their full lineup, might be a different story. I want to see Akeson in the regular lineup, in the right role, before we can get a more accurate picture. I think that is only fair.

It's like saying they'll roll to the Cup because they lumped up on the Caps. Too much flotsam and jetsam in the line up to get a true read. |

You know its coming. It happens every year.. the only way the Leafs can avoid a collapse at the end of a season is for the season to end after 48 games.
I'm all tingly with anticipation.
And the Leafs are now in on advanced metrics and have bought their own Fenway Corgi? Oh, so much the better!
