The Flyers dressed their 2nd line, 3rd D pair, their 12th & 13th forwards and 7th defenseman last night. If anyone thinks that's indicative of how they will look, that person is quite frankly a (frank)ing idiot. - Jsaquella
come on you have to see that we can't depend on schenn to lead our defense |

Good omen for the year. Walking around in center city. Just bumped into G, B Schenn, Read, Simmons, waffle, Amac Streit and Rosehill. They were super nice all posed for a group shot with my 10 yrold. |

If one of them grabs the bull by the horns, I could see Schultz on waivers post haste and one of the top-6 possibly eating popcorn for at least 9-games (if it's Morin).
But yeah, realistically speaking, I think the only roster drama left is if Blair Jones can beat somebody out for a F spot (Rosehill, Pedobear). I don't even think Laughton has a shot (right out of camp), just based on the cap jujitsu required to accommodate his hit. - Tomahawk
Jones...I keep forgetting about him. When I've seen him in the past, he's always played hard, put in the effort, but the hockey sense and hands are lacking.
The hands aren't going to change, but I do believe a player can improve defensively. He's got size and can skate and has experience. Maybe he can help us. |

It's like saying they'll roll to the Cup because they lumped up on the Caps. Too much flotsam and jetsam in the line up to get a true read. - Jsaquella
Exactly -- there was so little to take from that game last night; a few mistakes that could be corrected, certainly, but I mean, yeah. It's not like JVR's gonna be out there against a pairing of Lauridsen-Schultz in the regular season unless the entire world is on fire

Calgary is an interesting team to watch. Young team. Setoguchi and Raymond are two good pick ups. Hiller without question was a good pick up. They should be fun to watch. |

Hudler was quietly really good for them last year too. They might finally be getting on track to get out of the basement. |

I seem to recall him getting every chance here and when he got demoted down the lineup it was as a result of his poor play. #diva #firstlineproblems |

Yeah, I think they gave him opportunities and he didn't always play well when he got them.
At the same time, I think the Flyers did give up a bit too quickly, as it's obvious that JvR has some top level skills. |

would've had more chances if it wasn't for all those trade-dodging injuries |

He's just one of those players who had to get moved in order to fulfill his potential. It has happened before and will happen again. Maybe he would've become consistent in Philadelphia, but TBH, I saw what the Flyers saw: A talented player who seemed content with being an NHL player but not driven enough to be a top-line player.
Sometimes, getting moved is the best thing that can happen to a player.
I mean, look at Dallas. They didn't trade 40-goal James Neal AND 50-point Matt Niskanen. They traded inconsistent James Neal and inconsistent Matt Niskanen, and they gave them numerous opportunities to be difference-makers for them before they pulled the trigger. |

He was never used in the shootout in Philly, he scored every single time last season.
The first opportunity he had on the top line with Jagr and Giroux, he saw like six games before being replaced in favour of Hartnell.
He was often used on the second unit of the PP. After picking up Wayne Simmonds, he was expected to play the point instead of downlow in the crease where he should have been.
He was traded away after having a tough season with injuries.
I'll admit JvR had some opportunities here but not nearly as much as he should have. He very much should have been heavily relied on and viewed as Giroux's winger of the future. |

i think it was just a matter of him being a young player - not so much that they were withholding opportunities.
guarantee you he would've been used on the top line that year if he hadnt been traded |

Gave up too soon indeed. I think he'll see 40 goals at least once in his career. I also fear he'll do to us what John LeClair was able to do to Montreal for most of his career. |
