The best solution is to have a veteran guy who can play a regular shift without hurting you, can handle any problems on the ice, and can chip in offensively. Flyers-era Brashear was a prime example of this guy.

I'm not saying he's a great player, but overall he played well enough when he got the chance to be in the flyers top sex last season. If you want to use coaching decisions as a justification, this is the same coach that decided to dress No Skill Hal Gill for a playoff game after he play four regular-season games

it cost them nothing to qualify him. thats why. doesnt effect the balance of anything. as you said maybe they trade him later for an asset. him being qualified doesnt mean he is in their plans at all
