Even if Sanheim went above & beyond their expectations he'd still have been sent back to get the ice time, improve his game, & add muscle.

it cost them nothing to qualify him. thats why. doesnt effect the balance of anything. as you said maybe they trade him later for an asset. him being qualified doesnt mean he is in their plans at all
- rinaldo

It doesn't mean he is for sure, doesn't mean he isn't.

Of course this is a team that gave an unskilled, undisciplined guy who does nothing but hit a two year extension a year before his old deal ended. Maybe that kind of thinking is the issue.

Or trading a potential 30 goal scoring, top line winger for a physical defenseman who was a healthy scratch at times last season.

i am not so sure about that as if he never signs the offer how can it effect cap space? all it is about is retaining rights.

since the contract is not signed it does no take up one of the 50 i dont believe. not sure what reserev list you mean.

Re-read what I said. I said it affects OFF season cap space. Check the Capgeek FAQ and look under the rules of how the off season cap is accounted for. And secondly, check the Flyers reserve list. You'll find Gustafsson is on it.

I asked last night but never checked if anyone responded but do any of you have any games circled on the calendar you plan on seeing?

He probably has the highest ceiling of any of their prospects. Interested to watch him develop. Seems like the skill and hockey sense are really high. Just needs to grow into his frame and get more experience.

Agreed. He could be a Bouwmeester type, maybe even more. Definitely needs to add some muscle, though. He's rail thin

If he turns into just Bouwmeester I would be ecstatic, but I like J-Bow more than most people. It's a shame we couldn't have got him from Calgary instead of St Louis, although it would have cost us Morin.

Bouwmeester-Coburn would be a great first pairing.

Agreed. Bouwmeester would have been a great addition. Costly, but a huge hole filled

I am hoping he is more Ryan McDonaugh type. I think Bob McKenzie gave him that comparrison

I know Craig Button compared Sanheim to McDonaugh right after he was drafted. McKenzie may have also made that comparison.
